Evening all

Having just had my head done in by the latest WBAC.com advert, I am wondering what they do with them once they've bought them?

Obviously they don't pay the going rate for a private sale, I know this as they offered me £900 for an 840 Sport, but seriously, how do they move them or rather, through what channels.

It must be worth it somehow...

Anyone know?

Cheers - Nick.

Funny, I was thinking about this last night.

All I know is that they give very low values. So may even make a profit at auction.

I'd rather take the car to a trader and see what they would give. I reckon it would still be more than wbac.

Ford offered me £2700 for my car at the same time wbac offered £3400. I understand they try and knock more off the price when they collect it though..

If it's a 3 year old rep mobile they'll probably sell it, if it's an N reg Golf it'll probably go down the auction to make them £100 smile

They don't if the car is stock they can retail.

A lot of times it wouldn't.

Yes it is Carcraft and they will not pay you what they have quoted you once they have seen your car. They usually offer you more as a carrot just to get you there.

Not if you described it accurately they don't. The onus is on you. But you wouldn't mislead them initially would you. wink

They're disposed of in a few ways, as far as i'm aware.....

Auction - either under the UK Car Group Banner, or CC trade banner.

Put on the pitch and sold through Carcraft.

Sold direct to dealers.

Sold direct via Carcrafts own auctions.

Sold as scrap.

Yep, be honest. Loads of conflicting reports out there, go and make an informed decision.

How many cars have you sold them? Why did they "chip" you?

TBH I wouldn't bother with them....wanted to give me £6k for my MK1 RS
£12k for my mums £20k lotus
£16k for the £22k noble

Whether thats just because they aren't the average car?
But I guess its the same as any place that advertises cash for cars...slung straight on a forecourt at X% mark up

Anything that isnt bread and butter seems to get stupid offers yet a mate sold his wifes Mini to them for not much less than book. She got more for a 54 plate Cooper conv than they offered me for my 20k mile Evo7 (£2,000 more) and for a joke I put in my E30 M3 70k on the clock and they offered me £175.

As others have said, most end up at auction - usually at various BCA branches around the country. A right mixed bag they are too - some are indeed worth a fraction of their "book" price - relatively new cars without a straight panel and no history - in those cases the owners deserve to get peanuts as they should look after their ^&%^*% cars!

In amongst them there are sometimes some quite nice cars and because they want them sold and have usually got them cheap they do usually let them go even on poor day rather than hanging out for reserves or putting them back through. Therefore, if you are very careful they are sometimes quite good value.

Obvious cat is obvious?

Go on autotrader and compare your car for prices, then get a quote from WBAC.com. If you can't be arsed with going through the process of selling a car, it's a very easy solution. I maybe lost £500 on a £5k car, but so what? You're not gonna get scammed by some dodgy bouncing bankers' draft (yes, they can be forged now).

PS You don't have to accept their offers. You all realise that, right?

Hugely biased reporting, what did I expect though.

The company is there to make profit, they aren't going to offer you the going value for your car ever. What I find astonishing is people who have their cars valued with them, despite them knocking 500 or so off the online valuation price, still sold their car to them.

They offered 3500 for my 330ci, ludicrous on its own, but if they were then to take off another 500, then I'm the only one at fault, its not the big bad company taking my money, it's me being an idiot for accepting a terrible offer for my car.

If you can't be bothered to sell privately and get a decent price for your car, then expect to be exploited for the lowest possible value.

£500 is alot of money even if you earn that in a day. Would you work for free for a day just for kicks?
That isn't the same thing, tbh. It's about hassle. Similarly, I wouldn't just give £500 to a stranger. Again, that isn't the same thing. I want to get rid of a car in a hassle free manner. I don't want to buy another car. I don't want to extend the insurance - the quicker I sell it, the sooner I can cancel the insurance and claim the tax back.

WBAC- they'd have to come to me to make it worth my while but thats not their business model is it?

A place where you have to drive (a fair distance in some cases) to means already you are on the backfoot and prime for some silly offers.
Yes, especially if you're desperate for money because of debt problems. But that doesn't make them bad. They're not a charity. The sellers may already have tried Autotrader etc.

PS I'm not an employee there! The only thing I dislike is their advert.
