Have to say I'm slightly disappointed with bottas. Given he was hailed as the second coming he s not significantly better than maldonado. Iin fact id say Maldonado has had the better of him for pace.

Seen very little commentary on him which is surprising given how fast he seemed when he was a test driver. Bianchi on the other hand has convincingly shown his promise

Another kovi in the making?

Well the Williams is a POS and very unpredictable to drive so id give him a touch longer before making any serious judgements!

Well, Bottas has a quite tougher benchmark than Bianchi has... First time in Monaco, with no crashes, and outqualifying your team mate (who had the latest updates on his car). Not bad.

Williams have been on record recently saying how good he is and that they haven't given him a car to show case his talent.

Personally I think he's done a fantastic job so far, he's kept out of trouble and had a good showing against his much more experienced team mate, however it's very difficult to judge when you hardly see him and he's driving what appears to be a complete hound of a car.

Does anyone else think Bottas was browsing PH this morning, noticed this thread, and thought hey f**k you.... And this is the result....

I think that Valtteri was finally put in a position where he could demonstrate what Williams have seen in him, mixed with some excellent tactical decisions by the team.

Although your scenario is probably more likely wink

Yep definitely showed up today and demonstrated just what everyone behind the scenes has been raving about.

Hope he gets a good result tomorrow

Me too. Great to show what a leveller removal of some aero and power is,...

Realistically it is a freak of conditions that helped him arrive in the way, at the front there. I hope Williams can get some proper speed in the near future, as he's going to hit reality pretty hard come race time.

Well, he ended up 14th in the race. Pretty disappointing, but it was a good try. Reminds me of Hulkenberg in Brazil 2010: pole in qualifying, 8th in the race.

From watching him in wet FP1 on Friday, his car control is incredible, doubt we've seen the last of him smile

He went backwards (which was inevitable), but he did so without tripping over anybody or yielding places without a fight, and got a lot of TV coverage. I'm sure people will have noticed that he evidently has some talent.

Interesting thread a year on. Now comfortable with the car, some great overtaking moves, and first man home behind the Mercedes

This is the man, remember, who Frank Williams hailed as the most talented young driver he's been involved with since Senna.

I rate him.
Especially after Mexico ’16 when he returned Raikonnen's favour from Sochi. Had track position, stuck his rear wheel between Kimi's front and rear, stabs brakes and breaks the Ferrari's rear suspension as it rides up over his rear wheel.
Nifty. And by no means an accident.
Hopefully, he'll keep Lewis honest this year, and make him work for whatever he gets.
