He'll be getting a choice of sentence...

Five years inside...

or

Five years working in a newly released dwarf tossing contest on German TV.

D'ya mean dwarf tossing or, y'know, dwarf tossing? One is much later in the evening schedule than the other. So I am told.

Tossing a tosser, any way you like, both ways if you like....

The little bloke's going to be absolutely knackered.

That'll teach him to threaten Silverstone...poetic justice if ever I saw it...hehe

I have the feeling that what will suffer here will not be Ecclestone but F1. He's been on short-termism for some time and I can't help thinking that he might well look to 'realise his assets' now he's been charged. The Abu Dhabi double points seems to point that way to me.

If he's yesterday's news, who cares what happens to him. There's much more at stake here.

Incidentally can anyone explain how Bernie still has so much money. I thought it was all held in trust and his wife (new ex) and daughters were the beneficiaries. So how does he still have so much?

I doubt a man as shrewd as ol' Bernie would put it ALL in trust for the benefit of his wife and daughter.

It will mostly be in offshore trusts which in theory he doesn't have ultimate control over.

Mate of mine is the senior engineer on a superyacht for a very rich person who lives in the UK. Every instruction for maintenance or any decision regarding upgrades etc has to be made by the trustees (and proved with a paper trail) even though the owner might be standing on the ship telling him what to do.....

It was live on Sky News this morning. Ecclestone could have refused permission. Perhaps he felt that it would be good for the sponsors of F1 to have this brought out into the public eye.

I'm not certain but I have the suspicion this is not going to be good for the sport.

Does it not just highlight that F1 has become a corrupt business and given up on any sporting pretensions?

A sensible budget cap, for instance, could level the playing field, but vested interests from the top 4 teams will inevitably prevent it from becoming a sport in any recognizable form, in the near future.

I remember the shock I felt when Ken Tyrell. I was in the stands at Brands and talking to an old boy - about my age now - who'd been involved with F1 a few years previously. When I mentioned Tyrell he told me of the cheating that went on all through the grid. He was especially scathing about Chapman.

All illusions died long ago.

A friend of mine was involved in the negotiations with Dennis over sponsorship. My friend said that Dennis, for all his critics, was about as straight as you could get. Word/bond, that sort of thing. He said he found it refreshing and also - I forget his actual word - confusing.

You can levy the same observation at any major sport these days. Just have a look at the whole issue around Qatar and the world cup. All major sports have become exceptionally profitable endeavours over a relatively short period of time yet on the whole, remain largely self-governing and by the same people that were doing deals over a pint in the 70s.

well said, at the risk of repeating myself, I'm still yet to figure out how Bernie will make cash out of all this, but he will!

Yes, no doubt he'll have some dirt on Angela Merkel, fresh for a touch of blackmail.

This time next year, he'll be leading the Fourth Reich into world domination. He's going to look bloody silly with a little white 'tache, though...

Ecclestone is showing signs of wear. Marital status? Not the sort of thin he should forget. I bet Fabiana was chuffed at that.

I've been told by someone with some experience of the German legal system that it is extremely unlikely, almost impossible, that he will serve any time. His age precludes it.

Let's hope there isn't too much mud thrown.

FFS, he's only 110. There's a whole life ahead of him in the Luftwaffe if he wants it...

If not, what are they going to do, confiscate his incontinence pads?

Who cares. Both the parties involved seem - if reports are true - to be as bad as one-another.

They can impose restrictions, on movement and such. However, my informant suggests that there is no way this will go the whole way. There will be a 'negotiated settlement'. From our point of view this will mean he would not be able to front CVC.

This might have negative fall-out for us.

To be fair I don't understand the arguments but it would appear that if he is taken from us then CVC will have problems floating the rights. Not that that is not where they are at the moment. It is possible that the rights might be split, making it difficult for one person to front it. In other words, another committee.

Further, if you were Sky, RB, Merc, and others, would you not buy a bit, a big bit? What this change in the balance of power in F1 would do to the sport is difficult to say. But on a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being the best the fans can hope for and 9 being an absolute disaster for us, where would you put it?

I was talking about this to my wife when the trial was shown on the evening news. She asked: "When's the next Grand Prix?"

A voice of reason. There is F-all we can do about it, no way we can affect the outcome, and no point in worrying. Roll on the next race.

Those with money, power and influence will get away with what they want to get away with. He's got money, his power in on the wane and his influence is fast disappearing. You never know, they might get him if he's been abandoned by others as soiled goods, but I doubt it.

He'll walk out of court with a signed contract for 100 years of TV rights to German court proceedings.
