So last month everyone thought Ross Brawn would be fishing from his new office at MTC, then the rumour that Sam Michael (sp) would be sizing up his slightly bigger office, now comes the craziest rumour of them all...

Eric Boullier!! WTF!!

Somewhat sensationalist reporting from Noble here. His Autosport story http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/112254 confirms EB has stepped-down from Lotus; the McLaren connection is pure speculation based solely on his availability.

I think the newswires are just putting 2 + 2 together to make headlines. Surely Brawn has to be in pole position for the TP role?

I think Brawn will end up there eventually but I thought he was taking at least a 6 month sabbatical from the sport at the moment.

Maybe this Boullier thing will prompt RB to reconsider his plans, if he is seriously considering the McLaren TP role and thinks he can wait the 6 months before deciding, he may now re-think and decide time is of the essence.

In fairness I think wish has been father of the thought in terms of Ross Brawn from the start

You can't argue with that.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ross were to take six months or a year out then reappear as part of a consortium to buy a team.

You mean like Williams (using those alleged Williams shares he bought)?

I think RD has been very smart indeed (no surprises there) in ensnaring Boullier. Don't forget rumours surfaced about his departure some weeks ago....

Which means that Brawn, if he wants to move back into F1, could return to Ferrari or Williams....unlikely to want to get involved in Enstone again though.

Check out Joe Sawards comments on it all. In summary if it was brawn Ron would of announced it already thus he was awaiting confirmation thus it'll probably be boulier. Sam is not in the running and only Adam Parr is the other name to make sense but why upset Bernie just yet (wait until he's gone first)

Parr is a great businessman, but so is Ron, so unlikely he would be in the frame for TP.

I like Saward's prose but boy does he promote Caterham whenever he gets the chance.

One of Whitmarsh’s big announcements he was talking about at the end of last season.
What role will he be taking up?

One thing Lotus are very good at is media management, and keeping their name at the forefront of those lokking for information about F1.

The reality is that the article says nothing other than Lotus have spoken to Whitmarsh. Well of course they will have, they'll almost certainly have spoken to Ross Brawn and the Team Principals for every other team as well. Just because they have spoken to him oesn't mean he is going there. In fact why should he?

One thing I can’t find any confirmation about is whether Martin Whitmarsh has actually left McLaren, or has been fired as the team principal. None of the media has stated this, the McLaren website doesn't have any announcement either.
