The deluded Lotus driver also reckons he is good enough to remain in F1 regardless of any particular financial support.

"I think I have everything [I need] to be here - if you look at my career, I've won [races] in all the categories, even in Formula 1, which is not the case for many drivers here," Maldonado added.

So, who wants to pick a lap for the crash this weekend?

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say Lap 14

FP2.

Only because he'll miss FP1 because of crashing his scooter en route.

The Autosport pundits on the Castrol F1 fantasy F1 game have him down for a podium finish.

Even Maldonado would have to make a superhuman effort to finish on the podium, isn't it set well back from the track on the pit straight?

His interview brain is as cunning as his "not crashing" cortex.

So today he's basically said that massa is better than bottas, and bottas isn't really mich of a challenge - he's a but naff.

Maldo, last year he beat you. Scored 3 x your points tally. What are you saying really? Is the aim for everyone to conclude that you're much, much worse than rubens? That's the way everyone is going to read it. Pleb.

I still cant believe that Maldonado won in Spain 2012. Surprised he managed to string enough laps together with out crashing.

It can't even be due to bringing loads of money any more given the financial and political situation in venezuela. Surprising.

Don't be so sure, Lotus wouldn't have him in the car if he wasn't paying.

With his "skill" at hitting other innocent drivers and Massa's string of accidents that weren't his fault this year I'm surprised the two haven't crashed into each other yet.

With them starting at opposing ends of the grid this year they're usually both out of race before they get anywhere near each other.
