I 'enjoyed' the Maldanado Penalties Highlight reel on Sky today. More in one race than most manage in a season.

Surely this guy must cost the team more in smashed up cars and missed points scoring ( and I mean championship points ) chances than he brings to the team in sponsor money?

Crazy. I honestly can't think of a worse modern f1 driver? Even slow coach Max Chilton would do a better job.

Lotus may be struggling financially etc, but it's great to see a team with a sense of humour!

Can't see Maldonado still being with Lotus next year to be honest.

Luckily non of the front runners need his monet too much. Can you imagine him in a Ferrari?

If Renault buy them and can backfill the cash then I agree. But then with reduced oil revenues, maybe Venezuela may not have as much to share.

I think he will still be racing though. I'm not as negative as many, I think he has flashes of very good driving, it's the balance of rookie errors that erode him. He is quite quick, he's also impetuous. Easier to add control than to add speed, it just seems he hasn't managed to.

And in fact he himself has said he has no intention of changing his driving style.. so unless that was bravado then it's not a case of him not "managing" to add control, it's that he isn't trying!

And in an awful lot of time - dodgem driving was not confined to F1, nor dangerous crashes injuring others....

He seems to be something of a liability, I am quite surprised the other drivers will even go out racing with him on track.

That is shocking and hilarious in equal measure... echo the above, how is he even allowed in a car?

Pastor recently had an interview where he reckons his reputation is only due to the media having nothing else to report. Obviously, people who have cameras watching the race didn't get the memo.. I mean, most of the grid crash every other session, don't they?

Out of interest, since joining F1, how many points has he scored and how many penalty points has he scored in the same time, or better yet, how many stop go, drive through and grid drops has he been handed?

To be honest I thought it was poor. Some of those incidents were 50.50 or not his fault. Many repeats from different angles. Could have been done in 90 seconds.

Early Massa (and against HAM a few years ago) was similar - Massa had the nickname crash bandicoot...

He's scored 61 points. Scoring in 10 out of 87 races (86 starts); however he has had only 1.5 seasons with a capable car - and it's arguable how capable this year's Lotus is.

There would be no loss if Maldonado never raced in F1 again.

He reminds me of the late Andrea De Cesaris. A driver who, even a decade into his (Marlboro Italy) funded F1 career was driving into the side of his teammate, but driving beautifully on other weekends (nearly winning at Spa as far apart as 1983 and 1991)

Agreed to some extent as this year he has been much better, although the number of retirements may have something to bear on that. But he still hasn't cleaned up as much as Grosjean or Massa has and doesn't get my sympathy.

Even the Belgian tyre wall hates him, leapt out and smacked him one already.
