The BBC presenters have said the same more than once. He seems to be accessible, friendly and polite.

Shame about his driving.

I see pastor is on his usuall form, connected with the wall then had a gearbox issue, took the teams only spare gearbox then went out in P2 and connected with the wall again !
I recon he's working for Renault lowering the Lotus value one race at a time ?

I thought Mr Croft (sky chap) was somewhat unsubtle in his press conference. It was funny though... But the hint was not taken!

I think there’s more to this situation than meets the eye, and it isn’t as simple as ‘PDVSA haven’t paid the bill’. I understand that the proposed change in livery means the space available for PDVSA branding has changed and it was therefore decided that the contract needed to be amended as a result. For Renault not only is Maldonado a pretty poor driver in terms of his marketability, PDVSA is not really a brand they would want stuck all over the car given their relationship with Total. It seems to be clear that a payment has not been made, but there has been no confirmation that the contract renegotiation for PDVSA branding has been concluded either.

Add to that the fact Kevin Magnussen has reportedly managed to pull together some financial backing and Lotus/Renault won’t be especially unhappy if Pastor does take the exit route he has clearly been offered. Palmer also brings some money so the combination of him and Magnussen will only leave them $10-20m down on 2015, but with a lot more space on the car to sell to Total or fill with Renault branding.

I did wonder how long Venezuela's extravagant sponsorship spend for Maldonado would last in the current climate. Would love to see Magnussen back on the grid.

Probably has more to do with internal machinations in Venezuela and a global tanking of oil prices.

The police swoop on Renault HQ, have Maldonado's Venezuelan 'friends' told the French police something in retaliation for losing his seat?

Magnussen would almost certainly make use of that Renault seat than Maldonado..... but I suppose it will come down to which one can pony up the most cash at the end of the day.

Are there any other F1 drives still available if Renault give him the boot? Just Manor, isn't it? I'm sure they'd welcome a few extra millions if he still has the PDVSA funding.
