I could be wrong but isn't there a restaurant near the facility that he is particularly fond of.
Another reason to be in the area?

It's distinctly possible that his trip to Ferrari had absolutely nothing to do with a possible return to Ferrari, but I still think he is having a bit of fun fueling the rumour mill.

Maybe he is being groomed to become Team Principal of the restaurant?

I guess the old saying is right, and the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about!

That's my point... it's distincly possible that he is.
BUT, to chose to go to the Ferrari HQ, you cannot tell me he wasnt laughing inside (if's he's not making a return)

Free time on one's hands - check
Selection of perfect vintage Ferraris - check
holiday home close to Maranello - check
fondness for pasta in Cavallino - check
lots of mates in the factory - check

So of course he's off to the factory to sign a contract.

You can imagine a rumour furiously going around the facility that he's going to be their new leader too.

I bet he can't go anywhere at the moment without the same thing happening.

Given the situation, I'm sure Ferrari would have politely declined if they didn't want people to at least think he was on his way back. Or at least not milked the thing and allowed him to hoon a LaFerrari around the test track in public view.

It does look like a tantalising possibility for Brawn. He knows the place and knows that he wouldn't be one of 25 bosses if he was there. If he's looking for work, I can imagine he'll have his name on a brass plaque the day after his non-compete clause runs out.

The rumour mill seems to be very quiet where he is concerned.

Rumours about Brawn's future have been conspicuous by their absence, so it's starting to look like in his case "I've retired" does actually mean "I've retired".
