Take the emotions away from your favourite drivers and that is still a safety car IMO, at no point should marshals have been made to run across the track at that point so close to the last corner.
No marshals were made to run. There were plenty on the inside of the circuit. I have no idea why they ran across, they were either badly instructed by race control or locally. Even if there was a big gap to the next car, it was an un-needed risk in my view.Leithen said:
It looked like a certain safety car at first (especially considering past itchy trigger syndrome on the SC button), but it was off the racing line, in a spot where cars don't normally venture. .
It would only take one brake failure or engine failure locking up the rears etc for another car to spin randomly and into that car and the marshalls. Perhaps a bit too nanny state-ish but it sure looked risky to me.I think Massa was mostly to blame for that incident...
Kimi Raikkonen - painful watching a sportsman be so comprehensively destroyed by the competition.
Rosberg - great drive in a totally dominant car.
Hamilton - Got away with pushing his luck today.
Bottas might be driver of the day? Yet again delivering a solid result for Williams and fending off Lewis at the end.

Yes, all too often SCs have been deployed in the past for less apparent safety concerns.
Consistency is hard to achieve as no two incidents and the decision makers viewpoints are ever exactly the same. In the past the SCs have often been over-deployed for this observer.
Had it been deployed this time with resultant bunching up, there could have been some different results up front with several positional changes having an SC assist rather than driver/car combination merit.
Plus, you can have a good bet on SC deployment or not, or how many times it's deployed ...
I had a wide range of 'interest' bets on the race. Did not back the winner. Far too skinny odds and the Mercs have shown some fragility of late. Main bets being JB and SV to finish in front of their team mates. Largest bet was for JB to finish in the points from 11th on the grid. Almost a no brainer. Safe hands ... ask Hamilton. Reasonable odds available for all those risky bets.
I also had a few minor bets on Massa so possibly you can blame me for what happened there. My money weighs heavily on some drivers. Not all though. There again, maybe Massa's ongoing continual bad luck was responsible. I expected his Williams to go well but not upside down.

Maybe this will mean that the SC won't be deployed at the drop of a hat in future races too. We can but hope.
They were slagged off last race so today they over compensated. Some consistency would be a miracle. Deployed far too often for this observer. If it is to be 100% safe, best to ban all Motor Racing.

It was fine. That is my opinion. And Charlie Whiting's.
I bet Charlie had to consider it long and hard though, very borderline call.Should have been an SC. It wouldn't have denied Nico his win (well deserved). Good drive by Lewis after another reliability prob and his unfortunate misreading of Button. On balance, an excellent race.

"Unfortunate misreading.." Hoho.
Amazing how he got away with plowing into that group of cars, who says he is unlucky?!
Same way that he and Kimi went side by side round the previous corners, and how Kimi, Fernando and Seb went 3 abreast and also managed to come out all facing forwards.Amazing how he got away with plowing into that group of cars, who says he is unlucky?!
I'm guessing either they'd give Laurel & Hardy a go for sts and giggles, or the commentary box they were in is a long way from the grid and in this hot weather it's not good to be running and rushing all the way back up to it for a cool race start commentary without being all sweaty and out of breath.

More likely this. Also I suspect that Brundle is finding the grid walks as tedious as we are. Ehhhh...
