Just read that from Joe Saward.

Will it mean an extra race, or will one get dropped?

extra race from what I read in the above article. So 20 races next year, unless one bales out.

Looks like an interesting circuit. Hope they don't butcher it too much in order to make it safe.

It needs to be repaved due to bumps and the last corner needs neutering, theres not enough run off around it.

Indycar or Champ Car went through the baseball stadium as a chicane to avoid half of the last turn, and I would suspect a similar arrangement to avoid the fast turn.

I'll be surprised if it even recognisable by the time F1 rolls up there.

Just noticed as well the circuit is all covered by streetview.

I found it to be one of the trickiest tracks in Grand Prix Legends because of those blasted tyres.

Silverstone has an ongoing contract IIRC.

If any race gets dropped I'd agree Russia or Korea.

I hope it gets a revamp to an extent as when they last raced there it was like a motocross track! When Indycar went there hadn't they put some kind of chicane in instead of Peraltada(? last corner), I seem to remember something that looked like a cement works being very close to the track too on Indycar's visit.

It turned 90 degrees right just before, into the stadium, 90 degrees left down the infield and out of a gap between and under the stand to come back on halfway round the corner.

They went in here - https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Aut%C3%B3dromo+He...

went straight a bit, then turned left, to come out here

I found this video on their website which seems to show their plans for circuit updates, basically as above for the last corner and some other changes up at the far end of the track too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZr6jEjds2Q

I'm guessing that it will probably have the longest green light straight run to the first corner in F1.

Maybe even the longest uninterrupted straight?

From what the video shows they will:

- tighten and right angle the Moises Solana
- 90 degree the Esta Del Lago corners
- narrow the approach to Horquilla
- miss the first part of the Esses
- use a hairpin and S bend inside the baseball stadium

Its not actually a very good track as it is. What they will do should suit modern F1 a bit better, but its not an inspiring lap really.

Indeed - I started watching F1 too late - never seen them race there - but I know the circuit well.

I still remember Mansell's amazing move on Gerhard Berger around the outside of the Peraltada curve and Murray Walker going absolutely mental. My goodness Bernie & the FIA, resurface the track if you must but leave the circuit layout just as it was...........
