drivers and or cars keep having these problems.

After this race where the likes of Ferrari and red bull seem to have caught up to Mercedes and with rosberg not taking advantage and Hamilton coming from the back again after a reliability issue in quali could Riccardo who is only what 70 points behind pinch this years title.

Yes its a bit of a theory but stranger things have happened in f1 and I do believe if both merc drivers continue to take points of each other we might see a unexpected driver win this year very much like vettel in 2010, this is also a good point aswell with the double points at the last race.

Or is it the track which suited the red bull and Ferrari more and we will be back to normal come spa, but whatever will happen im sure Riccardo will become a future champion very soon.

Considering all the Merc drivers are doing is generally deciding who gets 25 and who gets 18, I cant see anyone else catching, much less Ricciardo pulling back 70 points somehow.

However the last race double points madness...who knows...but even then he needs to be inside 50 points.

Of course it is possible, but other teams have suffered reliability issues too, just they aren't as prominent as the teams haven't been leading at the time. It looks unlikely that anyone other than Mercedes and a Mercedes driver will win the championships unless there is a big change during the summer break. I guess we have to remember how dominant Vettel suddenly became last year, but there is a lot of ground to make up and surely Mercedes won't be standing still.

Chris - I can't see it. This weekend shows not that the gap is closed but that luck (good or bad) still influences races.

Hungary is renowned for small margins - a tenth there is three-tenths elsewhere and passing is very tough even with a pace advantage. Rosberg looked to have a huge margin over the field at the start and easily pulled out a big gap before the SC changed the course of the race.

You could put a few quid on RBR to with the CC or WDC but it'd better have a clause guaranteeing payout if Merc are disqualified a that's the only way another team has a chance at the title.

Just to put this in to context:

If Ricciardo wins every single race from now until the end of the season and Rosberg comes second Rosberg still wins the WDC.
So, we need some Rosberg & Hamilton double DNFs and Ricciardo wins and him win everything else for it to be a possibility.

Never say never, but its a pretty tall order.

Hungary is special, a fast version of Monaco. Aero in fast medium corners is all important and engine power advantage is diminished.

I will be very surprised if normal Mercedes power domination does not resume at both Spa and Monza. Singapore will probably be RBS next chance

Rosberg had this race in the bag, until the safety car.

Also, if Lewis didnt stick to his guns, and Rosberg went past, he would have probs had the race in the bag as well.

Lets not carried away...

No, no they won't..

A couple of the upcoming circuits are going to very much suit the Mercs (also perhaps the Williams) which means the Red Bulls will be very lucky to get on the podium.

The Mercs probably still have at least 0.5s a lap (if not more) over everybody else.

At the end Rosberg showed the true pace.

Miles quicker than anyone else...not far off 1 second a lap.

This^

Red bull and Ferrari have made no ground on Merc, the cicuit made them look quicker than they are, RBR have better aero downforce than Merc, Merc has grunt so with no real straights to talk of and corner after corner after corner i fully expected RBR and possibly Ferrari to give Merc a run, as said before Spa and Monza you'll see normal service resumed

With a maximum of 200 points remaning, it's now impossible for SUT, ERI, MAL, GUT, CHI and KOB to win the WDC.

hehe

It does highlight though that Hamilton is still well in contention, and I do believe Ricciardo has a shot at it.

No,

Even with a month or so before the next race, they're meant to take a mandated 2 week break so there shouldn't be any huge updates for the next race and unfortunately for RB the one thing they can't really update is the thing that's holding them back.

It's not impossible of course, but DR needs Nico AND Lewis to have an howler of a second half of the season.

Well if this continues Riccardo could sneak in to a wdc at the last race just like his team mate in 2010. Specially with double points too.

Hes 30 points behind Hamilton and 64 behind rosberg not a big gap tbh im sure vettel had a bigger gap coming into this stage of his wdc in 2010.
