More than 90% IMO, it's well known that Merc's strategy for at least the last 3 years has been to dominate this year by stealing a lead on the rest when the new regs came in.

Changes since first winter testing aside, RB was at the helm for it's entire development.

>90%

But he's the team principal, not MHPP CEO therefore not exactly relevant.

The engine/trans/electrical gubbins was designed and built by MHPP - Mercedes High Performance Powertrains. Not by the team.

Yep, and look how good the engine gubbuins perform in the McLaren wink

And MHPP (previously Ilmor) is based in UK, which should also make us Brits proud.

As an experiment I would like to see the Mclaren test with Petronas fuel rather than Mobil1. Just to see if they are losing performance due to running different fuel from the other Merc teams.

I did work experience there when it was Ilmor and it was mainly local lads.

It's Merc property and there's a lot of Germans working their now who transfer know-how to the road cars.

Exactly. RB made sure there was synergy between Brackley and Brixworth.

He did the same at Ferrari. Previously John Barnard was designing cars in Surrey and the engines were built back at Maranello. RB immediately wanted it to be in-house again.

Ilmor still exist. When Mercedes changes the name to MHPP Mario Illen bought the Ilmor name back and started again. Even weirder, they operate out of the old premises... Its like the last ten years have been wiped away, well apart from the mahosive new MHPP factory at the end of the road!

hehe

So erelevant, just wondered how they would get on without him, and what the timeframe would be before his work is superseded

They have gone from strength to strength since Ross left. Especially since Paddy arrived, as he's seen as a much better team leader.

Truth is, neither of them have or had significant input into the actual design of the car, but why let facts spoil the speculation?

No but RB was the architect much like the Brawn/Honda of 2009; a lot of emphasis was made on it as soon as they realised the 2008 Honda was a dud. Is it any wonder Merc started their 2014 engine programme as early as possible? Or what about Lauda twisting Hamilton's arm that Merc had targeted 2014 as the year the car would perform?
