WTF? Bernie bribes his way out of bribery case?

I don't see the problem with a financial crime being dealt with by way of a suitable financial penalty, especially if the penalty is large enough - and $100m is pretty substantial.
Seriously? Do you honestly believe that? The fall out from some financial crimes can be catastrophic to some of the victims.
Oh, and btw, for someone like BE $100m is pocket change.
Long gone are the times when he "worked" for the money. He now does it for the winning and the pleasure so the ability to carry on doing that is priceless to him. Getting away with this will just give him a buzz.

When was the last time the UK courts sent a British banker to jail for PPI mis selling, or LIBOR rigging? All that seems to happens is Barclays/Lloyds et al get fined and have to compensate their 'victims', what's so different here? The fall out from some financial crimes can be catastrophic to some of the victims.

The line between bribery and commission payments is often wafer thin, and what about corporate entertainment? I'm pretty relaxed about it.

Wrong end of the stick.
It's not a bribe it's a settlement.
Big difference and perfectly legal in Germany. After all what would a long and expensive investigative trial at the expense of the German tax payer achieve? Some romantics might suggest justice but ultimately someone with a lot of money would be forced to pay another wealthy individual or company a sum of money and the German law system foots the bill for agreeing the settlement. Granted legal fees would be paid.
Got to love Bernie and who in his position wouldn't do the same?
No you don't 'got to love Bernie'. I for one have nothing but contempt for him and his cronies. It's not a bribe it's a settlement.

The fact that it is possible for wealthy crooks and the corrupt to avoid justice is just another sad reflection on the justice systems that we all endure in this day and age.
Bavaria just benefitted by 100m Euros for bugger all. Win win to them.
I really hope that the suggestion that the money be used to build an F1 track is Bernie's idea of a joke (I've only seen it written, not spoken in a video). If it does turn out that his latest bribe charitable donation gets used to build a track, which then generates income for Bernie, several/many people should be locked up.
I can't decide whether it's the former, reinforcing his smug-git image, or the latter, brazenly confirming the stench of dubiousness surrounding most of his deals and his belief that he's untouchable.
Whichever, it's very disappointing that the system didn't see it through.

German law allows these cases to be settled in this way.
You have the money.
You are found neither guilty nor innocent so the status quo remains and you just pick up exactly where your life was before.
Bit of a no brainer really.
With the fine, what he initially paid the German banker and the legal bill it's just €150M that his vacuous daughters won't get to pi$$ away on unicorn skin handbags and chartering private jets and superyachts.
