Jenson Button's future...?
Discussion
Alonso proved himself to be a destructive personality at McLaren. We had the nonsense of having an FIA minder in his garage to make sure McLaren didn't hobble Alonso's car (which was all ridiculous but that was the state of play at the end of Alonso's time there).
Alonso tried to blackmail Ron, you think Ron would forget or forgive that?
No way will that guy ever set foot inside McLaren again, no matter how good some people seem to think he is.

As I said...what makes you so sure? Have you some inside info? I don't...so just keen to understand what the inside track in Woking is...Alonso tried to blackmail Ron, you think Ron would forget or forgive that?

and probably be happy to pick up the tab for him too.
He probably wants a multi-year deal
McLaren will probably push for a single year - and assume that once the Honda engine has bedded in they can attract Vettel/Alonso or Hamilton.....
JB is in the position where he's, yet again, comprehensively out doing his team mate on race day where it matters. He certainly hasn't lost it, he seems to be understandably in head down mode while he's in such a dog of a car. and probably be happy to pick up the tab for him too.

If the Honda engine is good, AND Mclaren can rock up with a decent car then there's no reason why more wins won't come his way. I think 2016 will be his decision year, more than likely based know how good the 2015 car was. But I would love to see him in an LMP1 car, even joining Webber at Porsche.
JB to ferrari makes a lot of commercial sense given the demographic of buyers must be closer to his age than the kids on the grid. UK is also biggest eu market now (I would think both Spain and Finland are largely irrelevant) behind the US.
Personally I think he has more to offer performance wise and would like to see him in a half decent car again

If they think Alonso can make up for a poor car, then they have another problem that is bigger than the current drivers; delusion.
In fact, Alonso might well really expose them. There would be nowhere to hide if, with Alonso as the No1 driver, McLaren are still languishing in the mid-field. Only thing is, Alonso is likely to be less than diplomatic about it than the current drivers.
The only benefits are Santander money (Yes Alonso the Pay Driver), and the other sponsor attraction of having Alonso.

Well said that man.

Alonso in a McLaren, not while Ron is breathing.
What makes you so sure? All of which is irrelevant, as I expect Alonso is using McLaren to boost his coffers with a new and improved Ferrari deal.

I'm not mates with Ron, so don't have any inside information. Based on Ron's history and how he operates I cant see any instance where he would allow Alonso near his team again. When a man of Ron's stature in the sport has a mere driver trying to blackmail him, and that puts in process the loss of $100 million, damages the teams future performance as a result, causes him to step down from the role he loved and enables a guy he has a bad relationship with to gloat over his demise (Moseley), it would be an absurd situation to then re-employ that driver.
Ron has a rather good memory and a lot of pride, quite justified when you look at what he built from the ground up, he doesn't need any driver that badly, he knows the issues with the teams performance and has put things in place to rectify that, which will not be seen for maybe 2 years, but it will happen.
I could be wrong, but human nature should dictate that partnership will never be seen again.
Holy snake in the grass Batman!
In the very unlikely event that the Spaniard and his Santander money turns up again to drive for Mclaren, that will no longer be my favourite F1 team and the much admired RD will hit the deck in my estimation.
Not only that and far more seriously, I shall be off to buy a Red Bull Cap and Williams one to add to my other Williams ones ... make that TWO Red Bull Caps .... so there ...

I'm a big JB fan, but not a fanboy. Honda liked Button, so that goes in his favour - I would like to see him staying at McLaren - if they can sort the car the environment should really boost his confidence. I don't rate his current team-mate though, so IMO Button should be the one staying.
I don't see Alonso leaving a team struggling with their current car to join a team with potentially less resource also struggling with their car. He will give Ferrari I more year.
I'd be happy to see Button at Ferrari or Williams too.

I also feel that he will end up at Ferrari......Personally I think he has more to offer performance wise and would like to see him in a half decent car again
From what I have been seeing in the various usual rumour places, Button\Bottas Swap may be the most likely if he leaves as bottas is a quick lad, and Ron likes his Finn's and it would be a great bookend to Buttons career to go back to where he started in a Williams, and given their current form could make a good show of himself
However the past Honda ties carry a lot of weight in Tokyo, he is doing a good job just now and showing up his teammate, which is all anyone can ask in the same equipment, so he is in good standing, as McLaren must realise their car is far rom tip top....again!
But the merry go round of F1 seats never stops till March of the next year

A Tweet from McLaren (Unnofficial)
Jenson Button admits that he may have no option but to quit Formula One if he isn't offered a new contract by McLaren.
Earlier, McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier admitted that the uncertainty over which drivers will be contracted for the next season and beyond is "uncomfortable for the drivers", but confirmed that a driver strategy for "three years and maybe five years" is on the proverbial drawing board.
With Button's team-mate Kevin Magnussen only in his first season with the team, and a reported approach for the re-signing Fernando Alonso seemingly on the cards, Button is the likely driver to miss out on a new deal.
As a result, the Brit admitted that this season is very likely to be his last in the sport.
"We haven't sat down and talked about it," Button told the BBC at the Belgian Grand Prix.
"If I have to retire at the end of the season then so be it, but I feel I have so much more to give and I can't imagine life without motorsport and especially Formula One.
"It's unusual, yes, but sometimes it's that way. Our job is to drive as fast as we can, do the best job for ourselves and the best job for the team. I feel we are both doing the maximum we can and a very good job."
