Really, hows that? How come they are on the ball for other events but not this? Are you a steward?
If he had hit alonso do you think the stewards would have ignored it?

Anyone else think that front wings should be designed so that the consequences of this kind of mistake are at least as great for the following driver as the followed?

I think the punishments reported by Sniff Petrol sound far more sensible. biggrin
  • Must spend next calendar month referring to Lewis Hamilton as ‘Tron du Awesome’.
  • Must swap Mercedes SL63 AMG for A180 diesel and is ‘forbidden’ from using the air-con even if he is ‘really sweaty’.
  • Must agree to have official FIA entry name for Italian GP changed to ‘Nipple Cockberg’.
  • Must undertake unpleasant new viral video task entitled ‘The Mice Bucket Challenge’.
  • Must agree to eat one item made by each sponsor, even if they sell something that will taste awful such as Petronas or Monster.
  • Must change ring tone to sound of Niki Lauda repeatedly shouting ‘BALLBAG’ through a trombone.
  • Must give up ticket for forthcoming team away-day to World Of Owl.
  • Must not to drive into team mate like a stupid tt.

Good to see SP have taken this racing incident very seriously.

In one of the Peter Windsor The Racer's Edge pieces on Sunday it says there are rumours:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EQBry3Fuy8&li...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnlj9ch6C4E&li...

I think it's in the first video.

With regard to comments about Yellow Helmet Syndrome I left that channel on lastnight so awoke to Peter Windsor going on about Senna's death and 'passing out' and his character and Brundle's recollections.

No. Absolutely not....... we'll it depends what you mean.....

1. Punctures are potentially extremely dangerous so if you mean increase the penalty for the following driver then no way - if you mean somehow mitigate against a puncture for the driver in front then maybe (broken front wings also are potentially extremely dangerous).

2. Motorsport is a non contact sport and I think one of the things that makes open wheel racing more exciting than tin tops is that the design of the car necessitates this - therefore the racing is better.

By-the-way his was a minor incident and should be forgotten about by all - had Nico been 6 inches further forward then Hamilton would have sailed into the distance while Nico limped back to the pits without a front wing.

Pirellis are known to be weak even though the construction is stronger than the comedy tyres.

I was thinking making the front wing less blade-like. Perhaps no vertical element.

yes I mentioned it in the main Spa grand prix thread - the incidence of punctures from skirmishes with fronts wings is far too high. There needs to be a regulation to ban sharp edges on the outside of the wings.

It would still encourage the sport to be non-contact (no-one wants to lose their front wing) but if someone gets it wrong, at least the consequences all fall to the car behind (as they should, since they have stuffed their nose in where it doesn't fit).

Is it "sharp" edges? Or just that when the carbon fibre shatters, the remaining needle like edges then puncture the tyre?

Maybe banning the teams from using carbon fibre would work?

There are already regulations designed to minimise punctures from wing endplate contact. The endplate must be, iirc, 10 mm thick with defined minimum outside corner radii. This was introduced during the Bridgestone era and seemed to work ok then. The problem seems to be that the Pirelli tyres are so fragile that they are liable to puncture if anything at all touches the sidewall.

The sidewall is fine, it's the shoulder.

Why didn't you say that then?

Suitable disciplinary action has been taken, according to the team...

Is that so.

All things considered since the "racing incident", behind closed doors more than one team member will be disciplined. Expect all team members to be far less overtly vociferous from now on. Talk about going off half-cocked.

Gahh why did the old thread have to be locked. I wanted to do some really childish rubbing of faces in it since Wolf and Lauda still clearly think that Rosberg was at fault. They haven't back tracked at all hehe

Given the vitriol Toto and Niki came out with directly after the race should we consider Nico fessed up over the radio during the race?

SniffPetrol is a satirical website. Or, to put it in terms that you understand, "Sniffpetrol are odds on (1:1, no point in betting) not serious"

According to the person (can't remember names) the collision wasn't Rosbergs fault (I pointed out that even Wolf and Lauda agreed) he claimed that they had back tracked since their initial comments... It would seem not smile

You only had to hear and see the unbridled anger from Toto Wolff and Nikki Lauda (speak up?) post-race to see their true opionion. If their opinions have changed since then, then this is corporate.

It does appear to be the case that they are not keen to disclose what has happened. Which is a shame.

I wonder if Nico will still get booed? And if he does win the WDC to my mind it is now tainted (and makes me question Monaco too).
