Nico's punishment.
Discussion
I would like to see his first practice seat given to young drivers/reserve drives for a few race weekends, will but Nico slightly behind Lewis in terms of track time and set up, but probably not enough to cost major points, whilst giving them a chance to evaluate and bring on the rookies.
Thoughts?

It's all smoke and mirrors. As long as Mercedes win both the drivers' & constructors' championships it doesn't matter a hoot to them. They won't do anything that will compromise those goals.
But if they don't do anything and the two cars keeping making contact on track, they are NOT assured of winning both championships.Someone at Mercedes could accidentally discover Nico's car was illegal to race on the two occasions Lewis DNF'd and have the FIA withdraw his points thus they both have equal points going forwards.
Or do nothing and just put up with Lewis's beefing.
I suspect Mercedes don't care, they have Constructors and Drivers Championship 1st & 2nd in the bag- job done, probably already planning the 2015 title defense in earnest.

Well, if they both keep qualifying first and second and take each other out in the first couple of laps, Mercedes will actually throw it all away. And I don't think Mercedes squeaky clean corporate is happy with their driver being subject to booing on world TV.
Nico will likely ignore any team orders that come over the radio (perhaps unless there is a real threat from the team that they will bench him for a race if he doesn't do what he is told).
So as punishment for Nico, does that leave options around trying the keep a gap between the cars on the track?
For example:
- Lewis gets priority in qualifying such that Nico can't impede his qualifying
- put Nico on a different, sub-optimal tyre strategy to allow Lewis to put some space between them at the start
- make Nico's pitstops slower if necessary

I'm not sure that Merc don't care. They lost a 1-2 at Spa. Even given NR's stop for a new nose he should have been able to get on the top step but outdriving himself meant another pit stop. The lad done bad and that will irritate Mer no end. I'm sure they don't care who wins each race but I bet they are concerned when one loses it.
I think there will be some subtle change. My belief is that it might be a split strategy, NR on primes when LH is on options, that sort of thing, so they are apart after the first stop right up until the end.

They also probably lost a race when LH didn't let NR through. All of these things are to be expected and in the grand scheme of things no biggy. They lost a 1-2 at Spa. I think you are dead right re split strategy - its a nice sidestep - but will run into problems when one of them gets the call to let the other through.
