I still think it was basically a racing incident and no punishment was required, but given the OTT interviews given my Wolff and Lauda during the race they had to be seen to do something....

Mercedes are basically over a barrel, they need to wrap up the constructors ASAP and then they can chill out and let Lewis and Nico go at it without any worries really.

Nico toeing the company line now, Lewis waiting till the end of the season to talk contracts.

I agree, I think Hamilton is gone. He feels the team is against him (all the hints about Nico's car not breaking down, etc) and he now has a team mate who is nearly as fast as him and is willing to fight dirty. I honestly think the toys will go out the pram if Nico wins the WDC and Lewis will be off.

Where is Lewis going to go? He'll only go where he can win a championship and the only two teams that can offer such a car are Mercedes and Red Bull.

They also probably lost a race when LH didn't let NR through.
This is true, although they also lost it by not pitting LH once more before the end when he was ahead of NR.

What a brilliant bit of journalism. I see why the BBC pay him now =)
Let's be fair here - Benson actually managed to write something without mentioning Teflonso even once.

They don't detail the punishment but NR accepts responsibilty.
They must continue to race hard and not hit each other for the remainder of the season.
I can't see NR sticking to that as/if and when his lead gets reduced..
Can you see Hamilton sticking to that?
That not relevant to the title of this thread, you simply trying to start another fatuous argument. rolleyes
Wrong? Repeat WRONG! It was a genuine enquiry. Here I quote the Racing God who has spelled it out plainly in the past.

Guess what... Kerrrunch. Now that's fatuous in my books.

This is NOT a thread for people to argue the toss about whether or not Lewis was wholly or partly responsible for the events at Spa.

Play the O/T card if you wish.

If Hamilton clears his head of any remaining remnants of that Yellow Helmet mindset and knuckles down with the correct strategy he can win this thing.

Kept out of this one till now, but WTF are you on about?

"Yellow Helmet mindset"?

if this is some lame reference to Senna, then kindly drop it before you make a total d**k of yourself.

Err... As I read it, it's about Lewis this year having some kind of Sports Psychology that involved ditching his traditional yellow helmet. Making a clean break from the attitude he's had for a few years.

I know I am going to regret this but have to ask, how so?

or are you going to claim what happened at SPA was Lewis doing a Senna?

Please tell me that's not what you actually think?

smile There have been signs that with those subtle changes he has been more successful. Long time since as far as I'm aware, few if any self-inflicted DNFs in recent seasons. haviung said that, being hard on yiour car can lead to self-inflicted DNFs.

The turning point for me here was that race where Hamilton was stuck behind Schumacher's Mercedes~Benz with numerous failed attempts to pass. Then along comes Button in the "same" car and sails past both with ease. Ever since then for me it's mainly been as though a light has gone on somewhere in his brain and he has been far more effective and considered both on and off the tracks. Good to see.

absolute rubbish (as usual!)

if you actually remember that race in detail, you will also remember Ross Brawn having to get on the radio to Michel and tell him to stop blocking (message from the FIA).

by the time Button was on the scene, the message had got though and Button was also on fresher tyres - but don't let the details get in the way.

Can anyone who wishes to engage in childish conduct please start their own thread to argue the toss about factual matters.

This thread is purely for discussion as to punishment. Sadly it does appear we won't truly get to find out, however I'd say given Lewis' facebook capitulation it is something he is content with. I suspect Lauda will want to ensure Lewis is happy in the team. I do also note a couple of clear phrases which give something of the game away to me about Merc/PETRONAS being unhappy at potentially being seen as cheating...

A shame however but maybe at some stage we will find out exactly what the sanction was, or if other sanctions were threatened/promised for similar conduct.

Wayyyy too late for that. laugh

I'm keen to know what punishment has been given though. I imagine just giving an apology was pretty painful for Nico but I do wonder if they hit him in the wallet as well....
