Just small screen mistakes I think. We all have bigger screen TVs to look at.
Sat at home all our attention is on that screen as well - we don't have to keep up a running commentary, listen to a director in our ear. All-in-all even bad commentators are pretty good compared to us amateur experts.

If thy really wanted to reign NR in wouldn't the best way to do it be to limit power/aero and just make his car slower over a lap that LH?

I hope Hamilton wins the WDC, is if NR wins it'll be forever clouded in the sub plots of the season - he had the best car, support from the team etc... Can't imagine it being to enjoyable for him winning his first WDC and being booed off the podium.

As already mentioned a poor pitstop would allow the same result in a more controlled and safe way. As would imaginary tyres going off or imaginary fuel saving needed.
I have no view on whether N.R.'s mistakes were his punishment or not,
but any of the other scenarios you mention above would mean that other team members would have to be involved in the conspiracy,
whilst a driver error could stay between the driver and top management.

If you're already going as fast as you can it's just a distraction and adds to the pressure; you can't do anything with the information.

The worrying thing with Nico is he's under pressure from all angles at the moment - Lewis is faster, Toto and Niki criticised him in public, the crowd are booing, he's losing the battle in the media and now he's making significant mistakes on track... so there's an element of doubt in his mind. The one glimmer of hope is he was upbeat after the race, which I thought was smart.

I expected Lewis to crack first under pressure but Nico has it all to lose at the moment. He needs to shut the world out and get back to being Mr Consistency. Just keep bagging 2nd places and take the opportunity when Lewis has more issues.

p.s. re the conspiracy theory stuff, people should be ashamed of themselves for being so dumb.
Yes. NR is more than good enough to bag every second place left on the table and some wins. And he knows LH is likely to have another DNF or so, afterall, Singapore where LH is usually extremely fast he has a track record of meeting the wall or another driver.

I still think the title belongs to NR and it is his to lose and if he does so it will be because he bins his consistency.

The only conspiracy to concern ourselves is that you can bet BE wants the title to go to the wire and be settled by the stupid last race double points fiasco, but his star is waning and does he really have the clout to pressure Mercedes like he has other teams to do his bidding? I think that what Merc wants is stronger than what BE wants Merc to want.

Of course ROS knows he may well have his share of bad luck between now and the end of the season so settling for 2nd places may not be enough. One DNF for him will put HAM ahead should he win. Also bear in mind HAM has already won a WDC so, so unlike you, I could see ROS feeling the pressure more than HAM.

I was thinking exactly the same with regards to Hamilton having a WDC under his belt and having challenged for a couple of others he has experience of the mental strength needed to see it out where as Rosberg has none.

A lot of drivers aiming for that first championship start to crack as the season draws to a close and it will be very interesting to see how Rosberg copes with it.

If Mercedes wanted Nico Rosberg to let Hamilton through, the easy way would be a slow pit stop, with Niki and Toto actually changing the wheels.
He would still be in the pitlane after dark!

I just wish he'd say a little bit less. Especially during practice, when he and his co commentator can get very distracting with their unending waffle. Easy to turn off though.

And I wish he'd give up with the apparently put on hesitation, seemingly to make it look like he's thinking deeply about some aspect or other.

Didn't Nico miss the chicane in sector 1 and wasn't that where he was quicker than Lewis in qualifying? Maybe he was just closer to the limit there and crossed that limit a couple of times yesterday trying to capitalise on where he knew he had an advantage?

Great race though.

The Mark Hughes report is a good read. Has some interesting bits on Nico's chcane misses. The comments afterwards are best avoided though.
