Before the podium ceremony at Monza, Nico Rosberg chatted in Italian with Mercedes’ Evan Short and Felipe Massa, describing Lewis Hamilton’s win as “lucky”. Hamilton was in the room but does not speak Italian.

Update: Here’s a translation of what was said courtesy of Enrico at Muretto Box F.1:

Rosberg: “st, he has been so lucky. How did it fking happen?”
Short: “You need luck in life.”
Rosberg: “Damn it, really.”
Short: “You will have it too [regarding the luck].”
Rosberg: “No, I already had my dose of luck. However…”
Short: “The Tifosi will be out there. It was a difficult race [for them].”
Rosberg: “I didn’t expect so much margin.”
Massa: “Me neither.”
Massa: “When I saw you was flying away, I tried to save the situation.”
Rosberg: “st, a great advantage.”

Rosberg also remarked “che culo” a few times, an exclamation which roughly means “you are very lucky”.

Yes, Hamilton was so lucky Rosberg took to the slip road twice!

Must have had his rabbit's foot in the car with him that day.

Rosberg is lucky that he has had fewer technical DNFs than Hamilton has had. Otherwise there'd be someone different leading the championship.

I don't mind Rosberg generally but this really does make him look like a brat. It's childish and unpleasant enough to exclude someone by deliberately speaking a language you know they don't understand, but to then call him lucky when it was Rosbergs own mistake that cost him the race? That's poor form.

Personally I find it all a bit sad.

Going into the season I was torn.

I'm British and supported LH right up until he started to forget he isn't an American street rapper and started to act like a spoilt child most the time. I honestly thought that it would be 'right' for him to win the championship this year.

I was a great fan of Nico's dad and was very happy to see Nico make it to F1, more so to get a proper car under him. I have always liked the idea of him winning a championship as well.

I loved the start of the season and saw the fireworks begin. Great I thought, a proper battle. Sadly though the two protagonists allowed their fight to spill out of the cars and into the press conferences and the like. Not really my cup of tea.

Then Monaco. I watched all the analysis of that incident and read all I could about it. I really did not want to believe that Nico acted with any malign intent and I think that moved me to my conclusion of giving the benefit of the doubt.

Since Monaco almost every race has given me cause to wonder if I was wrong to give Nico the benefit of the doubt. To me he has not started to show metal or steel but petulance and divisiveness. His stock, in my books, has gradually decreased race by race.

On the revers side LH, despite regaining the fking awful mid Atlantic accident [sic], has started to act like a proper driver again. Even the Mrs, a founder member of the 'LH love turned to hate club' acknowledged that his performance at Monza was spell binding as he hounded down Nico and forced him into making stupid errors. It was mesmeric. You didn't need to see the split times, the attitude of the car and the visibly decreasing gap said it all. The phrase 'like a Terminator' was and has since been mentioned many times.

Right now I don't mind who wins out of the two of them, but am finding myself in the LH camp more and more as the races tick down and Nico starts to fall apart at the edges.

My 'dream' result? Honeybadger sneaks through on a double points win after LH and NR take each other out battling for the lead in the final race hehe

If true it gives Lewis even more of a boost. Lewis (and everyone else) knows he won because he was faster - mistake or not Lewis had that race sorted once he got the ERS system going again.

If Nico wants to think that Lewis was "lucky" in getting the win then so be it, but the arrogance means that he's blind to the fact that he needs to go faster to beat Lewis. He needs to do more to beat Lewis and with that attitude he will not.

Have you considered just enjoying the racing? You know, getting excited about overtakes and such?

This.

And if anyone needs to find something to do, try to find an F1 driver who DOESN'T look for an excuse when he's beaten......

Sorry, I don't just 'enjoy' motorsport, I 'live' it.

I 'enjoy' a game of football because it means little or nothing to me. Once the final whistle goes it's over. I am passionate about motorsport. 3 Weeks old when I went to my first BGP and almost every weekend in the season is trackside nearly 40 years later.

I love my sport, and one of the reasons I love it is the many, many layers. Only enjoying the odd overtake, pit stop or race means you are missing out on so much more.

I'm afraid that you are also talking to someone who's first motorsport love is LM/GT3 cars so there is far more appreciation of the depth than your average motorsport 'fan' who classes themselves as such because they watch most GP's and the BTCC.

This is where I am with the race to be fair.

NR had his tyres changed a lap before LH, after that LH was catching him bit by bit, NR knew he was catching him and took the easy way out as he knows LH was ripping his lap times a new ahole, and was coming past no matter what.

Here's another version:

I dont know it this has already been translated, I just had the pre-podium conversation translated.

:well: Slightly impolite by Rosberg... cursing and swearing about Hamilton in Italian behind his back.

Hi John,
they speak very bad Italian. this is what I could understand from the video
Daniela xx

Conversation with Evan Short
Nico Rosberg: “Damn, he`s lucky... so lucky. How in hell was that possible?”
Evan Short: “In life you need that luck.”
Nico Rosberg: “What a luck. Che culo. What a luck!!!!!.
Evan Short: “You`ll also have it (I guess he means luck)”
Nico Rosberg: “No, I already had my load of luck. But... what a luck!!!!…”
[Louis Hamilton with his back to Rosberg, drapes a white towel over his head.]
Evan Short: “The Tifosi out there sad for them... was a difficult race [for the Tifosi? I guess?].”

Felipe enters the room: conversation with Felipe Massa
Nico Rosberg: “I didn’t expect so far behind.”
Felipe Massa: “Neither did I expect" (nervous laugh by Massa). When I saw... you was flying away, I tried to save what can be saved.”
Nico Rosberg: “st, a great advantage. Damn, what a lucky trick." (refering to Hamilton again).

This is pretty poor form given the rotten luck that LH has had this year - and the fact that NR knows it. Mind you, having a pop at someone for picking up a slight American twang (after living with an American for years) is pathetically shallow.

Possible he was talking about the recovery of the ERS?
