Those times don't look very good for Williams
On a timesheet where Ferrari are quickest I wouldn't read too much into it just yet...
This, it's only FP1 times. They're just running through their respective programmes..

Maldonado...

I wonder if the amount he pays even covers the damage bill?

From the replay leading up to the crash he was looking for an accident, just all over the place.

I wonder how long before Lopez cuts him loose, big cheque behind him or not.

I don't know what is funnier, Maldonado's driving or the suggestion F1 mechanics get paid overtime smile

hehe
I suspect you can trim that down to just "the suggestion F1 mechanics get paid" for some teams...

Ahhh, ooops...

Can anyone explain to me why Rosberg was so far out?

"Don't take too much notice of Nico Rosberg's finish down in 13th as he had to abort his qualifying-simulation run when the red flags came out for Pastor Maldonado's shunt."

He started a lap on fresh options just as Maldonado binned it, so did not get a fast lap in. He did go out afterwards on options but I presume couldn't get a lap in before the tyres were fecked.

Ta chaps.

I find that odd, a second lap surely wouldn't still be over a second off the pace?!?!

It's got to be said - it may be a mental thing, broken mentally...

I'd agree, I presume he had traffic so couldn't get a whole lap in, by which time they were knackered ? not sure.

p.s. Williams still miles off the pace frown
They didn't expect to be fast here, I think they have been doing race sim work rather than going flat out so they can get the best result possible on Sunday. I have to say I think Pat Symonds has bought an awful lot to that team, where they have done some odd things in the past with strategy and operationally I think he's steering them in the right direction, based on god knows how many years of experience.

Might be explained by this. Williams gearing may be suboptimal for Singapore.

http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns28903.html

Mercedes has now decided to make that "joker" [gear] ratio change for the rest of the season, beginning in Singapore.

Mercedes' miscalculation will now be corrected with a shorter eighth gear for Singapore and the subsequent decisive rounds of the world championship.

Curiously, the German marque's customer, the surprisingly competitive Williams, got its gear ratio calculation right from the very beginning in 2014.

"The engines have so much torque that we could make do with a five speed gearbox," he said. "It would save a lot of weight and space.

"Unfortunately, the regulations prescribe the eighth gear -- otherwise we would have never had it," said Symonds.

Must admit you are probably right, I had my doubts whether he should be let back into the sport but he does seem to know what he's doing.
As sketchy as the Renault incident was, even that was genius to be fair hehe

No surprise for Williams, they have a very efficient aero package, but it looks like they can't bolt a lot more downforce on without compromising that efficiency yet - see Monaco for example.
