"@pitlanetalk As promised, account will be deleted in case we were wrong about Alonso to McLaren. We were so it's time to go"

So it was only a gossip account on ttter, but the owner has deleted it supposedly on account of being wrong about Alsonso definitely having signed for McLaren. Which means that he definitely hasn't. Maybe. Or not.

Can we have some actual news please?

Why spoil things now?

It is one of the silliest silly seasons on record, isn't it.

Its getting boring now and dragging on far too long

Is it possible to change the thread title to unconfirmed until there is actually some bloody news about this?

Perhaps the thread would be shorted if we identified who WAS confirmed and where for next season.

I agree, it's boring and very hard to keep track of the various rumours.

Wonder when we'll hear the OFFICIAL announcements from the various teams involved in the '2014 Silly Season Saga'?

Perez isn't official but it seems like it'll just be a matter of time until it is.

Slightly related, Button very unlikely to be going to Porsche : http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/116623

With Banco de Brasil confirmed in the last Sauber seat, that's one less option for Alonso!

Just seen some reports on a couple of GP roundup sites that McLaren have given Alonso a deadline to accept their $88million offer for two years.

Mail this morning, quoting an "insider" it says that Boullier thinks they shouldn't have two number one drivers rather they must "fit together" and that is "bad news for Jenson"

Should NOT have two No. 1 divers.

Still, it's the Mail so no doubt it's all cobblers anyway.

A little part of me dies on reading that. The excitement of two-no-1's was one of the things that made mclaren legend, like ferrari ascended to something more than just another team, it was one of (love 'em or loath 'em) their principles, core values, etc etc etc.

If they're gonna trash that too and have "no 1 prima donna and some slow bh to massage his fragile ego" to win back the scoundrel who cheated them so badly then that says so much about how far they are from the mclaren that was great.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how likely is it that Alonso The Great will have McLaren contractually bound to give him absolute undisputed number one status?

About 11, I reckon.

(One day there will be the inevitable radio call, "Kevin, Fernando is faster than you".)

Ignore what I wrote earlier. Alonso has spoken:

"I don't think there is any deadline to do anything," said the double World Champion.

Surely he'll want to let any team know his decision before the start of next season.

"It’s easy to write a story saying ‘the deal is done’ but people in the know here in Interlagos say that Alonso hasn't signed the contract yet, he is waiting too.

Alonso at 33 knows that he needs to win another championship in the next two to three years and clearly Mercedes is the best place to be next year. He’s been waiting to see whether something might give in the Mercedes set up, but it has not happened.

Meanwhile he’s been playing hardball with Ferrari over the premature end of his contract, so that if he does end up sitting out 2015, he is at least collecting a significant sum of money while he does so."

If that is true and I have read similar elsewhere, why the hell would Mclaren want him, he clearly doesn't want to go there for the long term, and if he did go there it would be a stop gap only until he can get into a Mercedes.

I sincerely hope that Alonso is without a drive next year.

The whole thing stinks. And the way McLaren are treating K-Mag and JB is particularly bad. Talk about stringing people along and making them feel second-best.

"Yeah, yeah, we might keep you. If we can't get someone better".
