I don't suppose Fakerari are going to lead the way with a 3 car team with Alonso, Raikonnen and Vettel as the driver line up?
3 World champions in one team is a hell of a headline.
If so, be mightily embarrassing if Ricciardo or Rosberg win the championship in 2015.

It seems pretty much every race except Spain is a 'home race' for him. It reminds me of Rossi in MotoGP in this respect.

For whatever reasons, Alonso has got it into his head that Hamilton will walk at the end of this season, hence the waiting.
It's baffling isn't it? Even if Lewis lost the WC through some epic balls up at AD he's not going to leave that team for a number of reasons. 1, they have the best car. 2, he'd have nowhere good to go.
So he signs an agreement with McLaren that, subject to performance clauses on their success in 2015, he might join in 2016. Maybe that's what Alonso is waiting to find out?
But that doesn't help Alonso for this coming year does it? Even then, assuming he had a performance condition in there he could end up at Merc the year after and Alonso is still stuffed.

I'm fairly sure LH couldn't give a rat's about FA wink

Just a thought: I'd be sweating right now if I was Seb.

There's no going back to Red Bull for him in 2015, they signed Kvyat and shut the door. Ferrari have two drivers already under contract. If Fernando backs out of his move to McLaren and chooses to see out his contract then Seb has nowhere to turn. There must be a reason it's taken so long for all of the pieces to fall in to place...

For what it's worth, I still think he'll end up at Ferrari with Fernando at McLaren. But Seb's a young guy who negotiates his own contracts, and I think Fernando still has Flavio as his manager - I wouldn't trust either of them as far as I can throw them. All it takes is for Fernando to change his demands from Ferrari and Seb could find himself spending a year on the sidelines.

That was pulling into the McLaren pit box last year right? ;-)

If that scenario happened I think Ferrari would "rest" Alonso, Vettel is the new chapter for them and they would want to hit the ground running with him and by all accounts Alonso doesn't really fit there anymore.

On McLaren's current form, a year there is a year on the sidelines.

What's he up to with Lotus? Anyone know?

He intimated in an interview yesterday/today that he is indeed talking with them but on the business side.

I think that

1) Ferrari would not have signed Vettel without the termination with Alonso done. Just because he hasn't signed with someone else, doesn't mean his Ferrari exit isn't all sorted....

2) If it wasn't done, Ferrari would pay him to leave. Vettel is the future, paying off Alonso for a year is not beyond the coffers of Marlboro, etc.

Or look at it this way.

At the Paris Motor show Sergio Marchionne said "We have phenomenal drivers." when discussing why the F1 team's performance has not matched expectations in recent years.

So one of his first decisive acts as chief of Ferrari is to pay off a phenomenal driver in order to return the F1 team to success? I cannot see that happening. Letting him walk out on his own because they've brought in Vettel - that I can.

The longer this drags out the more I can see a Vettel, Alonso 2015 F1 team with Kimi as reserve driver.

Kimi will not be a reserve driver for anyone. This is Kimi Raikkonen - he can barely be arsed to race sometimes, let alone sit there watching...?

Alonso is gone. Whether to McLaren or not, he's gone.

Maybe they'll run all 3 next year, and eliminate the slowest after fp1 each week to decide the two race seats! Motivational!!!laugh

The rumour I keep hearing is that Alonso wants to be have his own team (possibly jointly with Flavio B.) Thy are apparently interested in Lotus or Torro Rosso. Alonso would also be a driver for whichever team (initially).

No concrete sources though.

My take on the FA situation is that Alonso clearly thought he had a chance to drive for Mercedes in 2015,was unhappy at Ferrari and wanted to cancel his contract for 2015-16.Ferrari had been in contact with Seb and knew he was available and could get out of his 2015 contract so they agreed to terminate Alonsos contract.Ferrari are not stupid enough to sign Vettel while Alonso was still contracted to them.

A few races ago when Vettel signed for Ferrari Lauda said that Ferrari and Alonso had terminated the contract the day before.Lauda still has many friends at Ferrari and is often seen in the Ferrari hospitality and I guess someone in Ferrari contacted Lauda to tell him this fact.

I think that Mercedes were never interested in Alonso so the only option for him was to join McLaren and the hold up in talks with Alonso is nothing to do with Alonso wanting compensation from Ferrari as he is not entitled to any and if this was the case more likely Alonso having to pay compensation to Ferrari.

I think the hold up is to do with McLaren knowing they hold the upper ground and in the end will sign Alonso but on a lot less money than he wanted and for a longer contract.

I dont think that Alonso is serious about buying a team and being the owner and driver as all he is interested in at the monent is to win another WDC.He may do that in the future buy doubt it as he cannot even sort out a bike team.

If McLaren are serious about winning the constructors title next year I would have thought that Alonso and Button would be the best driver line up but can also see the attraction of K Mag in the long term and if that happened I would like to see Button in a Lotus,Merc engine and think that will be very competitive.

From what I hear about the Honda engine Alonso could be making the worst decision of his life if the engine freeze is relaxed,Renault and Ferrari get their act together as McLaren Honda could well be mid field runners at best.

Is the Honda engine known to be rubbish then? Chap in the pub the other day told me that Alonso's decision to sign for McLaren was eased by Honda showing him the tech on the engine. The bloke said that up to that point, Alonso was proving hard to close. But hey, just pub talk isn't it?

Ron calls the engine a piece of jewellery... I hope that's not all it ends up as.
