Vettel to replace Alonso at Ferrari
Discussion
It's a compelling story. His get out clause - the following comes from talking to many of those involved behind the scenes on condition of non-attribution (i.e. OK to use the information, but not to be quoted - requires the belief that he's gained access to both camps to be able to fill in the pieces. He's a great journalist, but I find it hard to believe he's been getting much from Alonso over the last few months...

"Alonso was therefore left with the McLaren option. One year deal, suggested Fernando. Multi-year or no deal responded Ron Dennis."

Thanks for that, very interesting. if it is the case that Alonso thought he knew the full story only to realise he didn't he kept a very straight face and has continued to do so, especially after Vettel was signed. No doubt Alonso was advised soon after by a sympathetic supporter at the factory.http://www.motorsportmagazine.com/f1/why-ferrari-h...

The article says Ferrari breached the contract by negotiating with Vettel, how is that Alonso's fault? How was he supposed to know about Vettel's exit clause?
This is where he and Flavio screwed up, article said:
Briatore suggested Alonso sign the memorandum of understanding for the release, believing Mattiacci would then back down. He didn’t.
Apparently today is the annual board meeting at McLaren.
(I don't know why, but I have in mind the meeting of Spectre at the beginning of Thunderball. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW9-llaIS-g )
Amongst 'net journos there is an expectation that a decision will be reached on the 2015 driver line-up.

Yep agree. I put it out there because it was interesting but take it with a pinch of salt. Personally I find Mark Hughes a little frustrating as he's reporting these recent stories with the perceived authority of being in the same room. But the odd nugget is interesting.
There was the recent inside story of the interview where Alonso was forced out of Ferrari and now this. Both written as if he was there and I just struggle to give that any credence. I think there are a lot of gaps being imaginatively filled in with fiction in his articles.
Then again he'll write a good few paragraphs like this:
"He’s [Alonso] a truly brilliant driver, a non-stop freight train of competitive will. But just as with the blackmail attempt on Ron Dennis in the wake of Hungary 2007, he’d misjudged his opponent. And in his frustration he’s now on his way out of a team that has every chance of fielding a much improved car next year. It will be the first overseen by James Allison – who has been given carte blanche by Mattiacci to do what’s needed.
A big chunk of the necessary improvement in the power unit is easily reachable in that this one was deliberately – but misguidedly – conceived around an extreme solution to minimising heat rejection, at the expense of power. It’s a car that will quite conceivably be good enough for Vettel to win races in – and the perception will be that Seb’s been able to do what Alonso could not.
Whatever Alonso’s career statistics turn out to be, they are going to sell his wonderful talent short. But in the round, they will reflect a combination of that talent with a lack of nuance to his thinking, his one-dimensional way of demanding what is required. It pisses off those in a position of influence over his destiny – and that’s not smart."
I wonder if SniffPetrol's Trentham Sleaves is in any way based on him?

Not see that. Very good! Probably him or Nigel Roebuck. Have to admit I started listening the the Motorsport Magazine podcasts last year and enjoy them but by god are the Motorsport team a bunch of fawning, rose tinted dinosaurs!"I remember in '76...." or "Keke came to me in confidence..." or "I said to Frank you should hire this guy"
When they shut up the podcasts are great but the recent 2014 F1 review... uuugh.... Give me Gordon Murray, Richard Noble, Pat Symmonds interviews every time!

That's got to be Roebuck. Have you ever seen him talk about Gilles?
Yes - it's as if Gilles' driving touched him in a way no woman had before or since. I tend to grimace or fast forward through the opening few minutes of sycophantic arse licking for each podcast but they are generally worth it once guest gets going.Gaz. said:

Apparently Ron had been in Denmark trying to drum up some sponsorship for Magnussen. The boss of Lego is reported to have said that sporsorship does not fit with Lego.
Advantage Button?
That's a lot of sponsors not wanting to deal with Mclaren....Advantage Button?
