Both Vettel and Red Bull have denied it.

So judging by how things work in F1, it's true!

Alonso to Lotus - as I said in my original thread title 'silly season'!

Anyway who changed my thread title? Might have been good manners to ask/let me know?

I should imagine Teflonso has sufficient money to not worry as much about that as getting into a car which can at least challenge for the WDC.

Sergio Marchionne is a new broom and might well have decided that Alonso's influence is a problem for the team. If he's had a full and frank with FA, perhaps saying this is the way things will be for 2015, maybe even an ultimatum, then I could see FA wandering down the pitlane with a pitboard saying he would drive for chips. But even then, Lotus?

Can't help on the thread title but the chart is interesting.
What does Alonso want? He wants another WDC surely. His face at Vettel winning it in spite of so nearly crashing out and losing it when he crashed on the opening lap of the decider a couple of years back says (or said that much)
Alonso will know his chance is only with a Mercedes powered team so who does that leave?
Well Mercedes, barring some internal falling out will stick with the combo they have and McLaren have bet the house on the success of Honda coming so next year is a bit of a 'filler'. Certainly I agree that Force India are not the place for him so what does that leave?
Well, Williams and the wildcard of Lotus....
But both Williams drivers are fully contracted and Lotus have a very uphill climb.
That said Bottas' stock must surely have risen massively and Alonso can work with Felipe. Might Valtteri be tempted elsewhere leaving a Fernando sized hole?

Oh come on, they couldn't even afford to keep Raikkonen let alone take on Alonso...... and why on earth would he want to go there given their current performances?

I still feel a domino effect coming.

Hamilton to McLaren. Alonso to Mercedes. Vettel to Ferrari.

I think…

Vettel to Ferrari
Alonso to McLaren
Magnussen to Force India
Perez to Ferrari
Vergne to Red Bull
Rosberg to Williams
Bottas to Mercedes
Chilton to Formula E

winkbiggrin

Joking aside I think the Perez to Ferrari is a possibility if Kimi is paid not to drive next year. Chilton I feel a strong possibility!

Rosberg just signed a contact extension and he likes the team, I can't see him going anywhere but Hamilton might flounce off if he doesn't win the WDC. Ferrari won't pay off Raikkonen again, especially as his driving has improved the last few races (unfortunately not the results but they will come). I could definitely see Vettel and Alonso wanting to move though.

I'd doubt it. Red Bull need a future star for the long term. Kyvat could be good enough to be Danny's number 2....
If Alonso or Hamilton goes to McLaren I could see JB staying and Magnussen being possibly farmed out to Force India for a year before returning to replace Button.

Sad to say it, but the loser in all this is Hulkenberg. He needs to conclusively beat Perez to prove he's worthy of a Ferrari or Red Bull.

Looks like Honda are desperate to get Alonso. http://www.planetf1.com/driver/3213/9486393/-Honda...

I would be highly amused of he did go to Honda, Vettel went to Ferrari and then Ferrari delivers Kimi and Vettel the best car next year... laugh

That is just a re-hash of a James Allen article which in itself is speculating.

I like this article on James Allen's site.

"Valtteri Bottas “like a young Alonso” – Max Verstappen “like Senna” "
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2014/09/valterri-bot...

So what teams really need Alonso? If Honda really are prepared to spend $30M buying him out of a contract plus $20M a year perhaps that might be better spent given Jenson and Kevin a decent car?

If he's not careful he's a busted flush with no where to go but stay at Ferrari.

There is a very similar article on either Pitass or Grandprix.com can't remember which. Implies that Honda want Button and Alonso.

Must admit not sure I'd be going to McLaren next year with uncertainity over their ability to design a good car and the unknown on Honda's engine.

Now I'm a big McL fan so there might just be a bit of bias here, but the McL will have an engine that will be built alongside the car. So the package will be designed as a unit, just like the Merc. I doubt that Honda will not have been studying the various layouts of all the engines and will have come up with something a bit different.

I reckon that there is a chance that the McL will be class of the field. The personnel changes at McL might make a big difference: they did at Ferrari, twice in fact, up then down.

I reckon McL could come up with the business. Money will be less of a problem than it has been in the past.

Will Buxton, via Twitter:

"...Alonso/Vettel seat swap being reported in Italy."

Yes, Alonso is unhappy with the performance of the car and Vettel is unhappy at being out performed by Danny.

Yes, Redbull could afford Alonso.

But what does Vettel get out of it, apart from being a Ferrari driver?
You've answered your own question there. Vettel would be hugely marketable for Ferrari. Ferrari offers former drivers a long, long career, jetting round the world in 1st class, driving fast cars quickly for promo purposes once they have have retired from racing. Yes, he might have more money then Croesus, but if he retires at, say, 33 / 34, his mindset won't let him just tend to his garden.
