Vettel to replace Alonso at Ferrari

I can easily see Vettel going there, though. The RB isn't suiting him at all and I would imagine he is looking to prove to both himself and his (many) detractors that he is quick. If he went to Ferrari and puts in the performances that Alonso is able to there, he will quieter a lot of his critics
& if he plays 2nd fiddle to Alonso in performance, where does that leave his reputation. I would bet on Alonso over Vettel. So Alonso has signed for McLaren then? and Vettel is off to Ferrari? and this is for 2015, not 2016?
Wow. That's a turn-up for the books!
Any idea when it'll be announced officially you chaps who have been party to the news?
Would you think it might be announced in Japan, given Honda owns the circuit?
The respected hacks say that there isnt any kind of 'escape clause' in Alonso's contract. Why would there be? That's not to say that Ferrari might not have decided to think of a number....but surely it'd have 9 digits in it, not a relatively affordable 8?
Let's see what comes out in the news once the circus reaches Japan.

That's a bit harsh. I've had a flick through the thread and most contributors are merely commenting on the rumours, and speculating. Are you suggesting that we, as I include myself in the group of speculators, shouldn't have a bit of fun by wondering 'what if'?There is, after all, a question mark in the OP's heading to this thread.
It is a fortnight between races after all.

Not a hint of sarcasm. If someone has the inside track, let's hear about it. Phrases such as 'the word on the street' from a person I've never seen post before suggests they know something. That isn't the same as 'I think that' or 'it'd make a lot of sense'..they're signifiers of speculative postings. There is, after all, a question mark in the OP's heading to this thread.

You can have as much fun speculating as you like. Only reason I ever bother posting on such threads is if I see something that suggests someone may have some information as an insider.

That should be an F1 PH sticky that advice! Can't see it being taken much though... of course agents can always let slip dis / information to bump up their driver's fees, and possibly plant that seed into loud orange Irish men in loud shirts for mass dissemination. You can have as much fun speculating as you like. When I ran one of my F1 Fanzine websites I met an ex-Brabham mechanic, from the time of Piquet. He wasn't the happiest of men but came up with a certain amount of information and, better still, contacts. You can have as much fun speculating as you like. Only reason I ever bother posting on such threads is if I see something that suggests someone may have some information as an insider.
I put a bit of such sourced information on my site, in the form of a mock interview with a team principal - a regular post-race feature, and I got a lot of stick back from readers saying that what I had written was rubbish, in particular from someone who worked in F1 PR, normally an excellent source of comment. When it came true he told me how lucky I was in my guess.
I would suggest that most of those in the know don't know it all. I don't treat such things seriously, but you never know.
Further, as I said, it is a bit of fun but based on current circumstances. The general opinion is that FA is unhappy in Ferrari, the performance of the car being the main gripe, and if he goes there is a domino effect.
I would have thought that FA would not go back to McL, but I have to say that the consensus is against me there. Who is right? I don't know.
But what if, eh? Is it too frivolous just to speculate? It is the silly season after all so why not be a little silly.
There's every chance Alonso might sign with McLaren, but it seems extremely unlikely that'll happen until 2016. However, what is far more interesting to me is whether his reported interest in investing in an F1 team might influence his decision on where to (or indeed whether to) move to next.
My personal opinion is that he desperately wants to win one more title both to round it off to a nice treble and to prove to all (and maybe himself) that he still has 'it'. Moving to McLaren in 2016 would allow him the 'luxury' of seeing whether the Honda/McLaren alliance is working and likely to deliver him thst title.
Disclaimer: this is pure speculation

To compound Ferrari's problems: http://autoweek.com/article/formula-one/ferrari-lo...
This is a black mark imho, engineers are going to be very cautious about moving there. If they can't get the engineers they are going to continue to struggle.

He fell out with me, or at least I fell out with him, during the Stepneygate fiasco. But that was years ago. If I can forgive FA for his conduct, given his performances since, then obviously Dennis will be able to.These rumours of disquiet can't be helping Ferrari. Poor man management has been their norm since the glory days of Brown being in charge but if I had some money to invest in advertising, would I sign a contract for Ferrari not knowing who'd be steering the car?
On the positive side of the chap who sued Ferrari, he didn't wander up and down the pit lane trying to sell confidential corporate information as some have done in the past.
According to a quote of anothers quote.... Grandprix 247 as saying the Honda powerunit has issues and could be a stumbling block for Alonso.
In other words it seems that Alonso might sign for McLaren but equally he might not

But according to Corriere dello Sport, the spanner in the works of Alonso’s sensational switch to McLaren could be some alarming reports emerging from Japan.
The report claims Honda is about three months behind schedule in the development of its first turbo V6 power unit, having encountered problems even greater than those struck by Renault as the troubled French marque prepared for 2014.
The specialist Autosprint said Honda’s development V6 currently consumes too much fuel and produces too little power, “To try to recover. Honda is investing massively and mobilising people and businesses around Japan.” (GMM)

They also said they did not used to feature drivers who were currently driving for other teams but have changed this due to fan feedback. This is also supported by Hamilton and Perez being mentioned. Autoweek said:

It seems unlikely that a change on the web site signifies anything, unless the web team are the first people Ron goes to when discussing secret driver negotiations.
