He fell out with me, or at least I fell out with him, during the Stepneygate fiasco. But that was years ago. If I can forgive FA for his conduct, given his performances since, then obviously Dennis will be able to.

.
Derek, sir, wash your mouth out with soap! Forgive FA? How could you!!

I never will. He's a disreputable, dishonest scoundrel.
You forgot disloyal as well.

Part of the reason McL are in the doldrums is because of the Stepneygate fiasco. The irritating thing is that his, and PdlR's behaviour is what gave Mosley a lever to attack the bloke he hated. The fact that Dennis survived him must - at least I hope so - make him very bitter. It is irritating in the extreme that the two who were the only ones to benefit, at least knowingly, from the Stepney 'theft' of data were not punished.

But, as I said, it was all a long time ago and if I keep disliking him for something that happened so long ago, one of my newer dislikes will have to be sacrificed as there's only so many you can keep going.

I was thrown out of a museum at Culloden Moor due to upsetting a bloke who was still angry about something that occurred over 300 years before. (I put him right about history.) I told him that he should let it go. I don't often give good advice but I was spot on there. So I should follow it myself.

Mind you, it is pretty cool being thrown out of a museum for being disruptive.

On top of all that, FA is an exciting driver and that's what I watch F1 to see. If I can forgive LH for that haircut, then LA's behaviour becomes less serious.

What about Crashgate? I don't know if Alonso was privy to Renault's cunning plan but he hasn't exactly disowned what was, to all reasonable eyes, a tainted win. And that, to me, speaks volumes about him.

"Honda and McLaren want to hit the ground running. They want Alonso or Sebastian Vettel and it's possible both could wind up there. There are moves happening as we speak and possible scenarios that by the end of October there could be a change of management and of drivers in that team."
So, who's gonna bet against him...

When Honda linked up with McLaren RBR were WCC/WDC 3 times over. "Excuse me Mr Horner, but we've got an idea for an engine which will only cost £££££"
"Lol, yeh right, I've got a Newey, we can win with a rubber band".

They are locked in to McLaren exclusively until 2016 and I suspect the contract gives them preferential treatment past that too.

Bottas to Mercedes

I think I need to place a bet on this right now!

However, Alonso can get a better result at Red Bull.

I think the main reason for Vettel going to Ferrari would be to give input on how to build a good car. It's been said a few times by RB that he's helped them a lot with his feedback. Perhaps Ferrari are taking the risk of getting a less flexible driver (in regards to performance with less downforce) but who can help get the car sorted.

When was the last time a big Ferrari star driver actually left Ferrari for another team under their own steam and early, as opposed to Kimi being paid off and taking a couple of years out, Schumacher retiring and Massa's contract ending; Ferrari seem to be the team that all big name drivers want to drive for and to finidh their career there?

Honda bloke in press conference insisting no decisions have been made about drivers.

Kimi Räikkönen's team-mate will change next season. The evening Sanomat has learned that Ferrari's Fernando Alonso leaves after this season. Alonso has driven the Italian team's car from 2010.
Alonso is expected to move to McLaren, who gets a new engine partner Honda.
Räikkönen's new teammate is Red Bull's four times world champion Sebastian Vettel.
At least some of the transfers are expected to gain the executable Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday after.

Sanomat was the first to 'confirm' Alonso at Ferrari in the first place. Apparently backs up a story in la Gazetta

During FP2 on BBC, Ron Dennis was interviewed and asked about Berger. He indulged in a bit of a tirade against an unnamed journo. Anyone know who that is?

One of my technicians Brothers works at the MTC, and has just told us that as far as everyone there is concerned Alonso will be there next year! Apparently he will replace Magnussen and potentially in 2016 Hamilton will come back and replace Button. The first bit I reckon is true but not so sure about the Hamilton replacing Button part. We shall have to wait and see though. Stranger things have happened smile

I still think Dolmio man is the closest look. He does have that puppet like look to him so could probably fit into various guises. biggrin

Would be good to see teflonso back in a macca, then see if he is all that or if he is just the same as everyone in a st car....st.

Shame if Button gets the heave ho, as this late in the game he may lose out a seat and that's pretty unfair given how well he was doing at macca before they built successive milk floats.

I think his standing at Honda when they were really poor, has given him good standing with the company, but as ever money talks, so he may be out on his ear.

I think magnussen getting hoofed out and having 2 experienced hands to develop the car will be Honda and Macca's plan.

We will know by next week I think, too many news reports going about.

...because seeing him repeatedly, comprehensively outperform the not-particularly-impressive Ferrari of the last few years is just not enough.

You cannot outperform a machine's capability. Physics dictate what a machine can do within it's environment, the driver can take the machine to the physical limits, but once there, they are just that... physical limits.

The only thing Alonso outperformed in the past 5yrs has been post head bump Massa (nothing to brag about) and Kimi who has come in to Alonso's team and is only geeting to grips with the car now.

Don't get me wrong, he is good. But, he cannae change the laws of physics.

I would suggest that if he is off to McLaren one of the main attractions would be that he has proven to consistently get good results out of a mediocre car.

imho he and Hamilton are the best drivers on the grid. Now that they've kissed and made up I'd be fascinated to see them in the same team again.

What I can't figure out is if, as most of the media suggests he wants another title very soon why not go to red bull ? McLaren is undoubtedly a bigger risk.
Did RBR miss the boat, thinking that Vettel wouldn't leave ?
Would they not comply with his wage/contractual demands ?
Does he think Horner is a smug git and won't work with him ?

I guess it will all come out eventually.
