If Mercedes finish 1st & 2nd, and RBR's maximum result is a single 9th place then Merc win the constructors championship.
That's a scary stat. I think the odds are that it will go to the next race though. I expect everyone at Merc will be saying "for sure, we're not thinking about championships, just looking for a good result this weekend".

I see no reason that they won't dominate in quali and race.

Good stuff.

It could be a wet race. There is a weather front due on Sunday evening into Monday but the exact timing of this is uncertain at this range. Race start is 3pm local time.

Oh no, you haven't put 'SPOILERS' in the title! Imagine the number of numpties who are going to come on here Sunday night expecting to read lots about the race with NO SPOILERS?

Its gonna be carnage!

Or the year.

I was expecting 2015 and it's all been ruined.

Quick change the title, that'll scupper those that don't want to know.

Red Bull will do well here. It will be the closest they've been to Merc so far.

Rosberg will struggle at this circuit

I expect a close duel between Hamilton and Vettel for race win.

Loving this thread so far!

Anyone think Williams have a good chance here? I always think of Suzuka as a high speed circuit but being good through the esses (which always seems to be a Red Bull thing) is so important.

Hopefully the rain can bring williams a bit closer. Love to see Bottas get a win this year.

The race may have to be held earlier in the day and the broadcasters will have to accommodate this or do full re-runs at their scheduled broadcast times as the monsoon is due to arrive roughly at the race start time.
Eh? Gaz you need to have a word with that mon-soon guy.....

Max Verstappen to make FP1 debut in Japan with Toro Rosso F1 team

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/116078

Autosport said:
Max Verstappen will have his first official Formula 1 race weekend outing at the Japanese Grand Prix, with Toro Rosso confirming he will drive in first free practice.

The Dutchman, who will race for the Italian outfit in 2015, has been waiting to find out if the FIA would grant him a superlicence so could begin his preparations.

That approval has now been given, meaning Verstappen will run in FP1.

Speaking about his first F1 outing, Verstappen said: "I am very much looking forward to taking part in a free practice session at a grand prix for the first time.

"It is good preparation for next year, even if it's not something I could have imagined a few months ago.

"To already be participating in a practice session is of course a dream come true."

He added: "For me it will be a very valuable experience, spending some time in the car and also getting used to working with everyone in the team, to prepare myself for next year.

"I am not going there to break any records, I just want to gain experience.

"I have spent one day driving this track on the simulator, which helps a bit, but it's no substitute for driving it for real."

Verstappen racked up the necessary mileage to qualify for a superlicence in a test with a 2012 car earlier this month.

Looking forward to seeing how Max does.

I was bemused by this headline this morning: "Caterham pins hopes on new front wing."

Pinning your hopes on the first part to get knocked off any open-wheel race car!

I have noticed the Caterham nose getting gradually less Ann Summers over the last few races, what have they changed this time?

It must be pretty soul destroying at the back, you invest a million pounds on a new wing and gain 0.2seconds and all Lewis and Nico need do is turn a knob from 9 to 10 and gain a whole second, not to mention 11 (Hammer Time) for 2second a lap on everyone :-)

I wonder if Mercedes have a 12 setting for the last race? Thor Time perhaps ;-)
