If he had any other options he'd have no doubt exercised them by now.

If nobody else wants him at the price he thinks he's worth, how come McLaren and Ron Dennis are so evil? McLaren appear to have been his only F1 hope for quite some time, so why should they be rushed into a decison they might regret?

I bet that they are delighted that he did his job.

McLaren are in a terrible rut and Jensen is just too passive to help get them out of it.

Time for a change.

Go home old man.
He is past ALO now.
Your quite the fan.

I would humbly suggest that the drivers are the least of McLaren's problems.

I am a fan of Button and have supported him for many years but I try to remain objective, It's new thing I know but some on this thread should try it, you might like it.

Button is on the downward part of the bell curve of his career. He is a decent driver but will be slower next year than this and has the wrong personality/speed/wage for the situation that McLaren are in.

He would be an excellent stabilising factor at a consistent upper middle team, McLaren sure as hell aren't that.

Nonone knows anything yet!!
I think JB has proven before, that money isn't what motivates him to race in F1, so I would think it unlikely to be the reason his seat might be lost.

True, but until Ron reveals the reasons why he has waited so long to confirm hes drivers for 2015, i find it silly for some to start name calling and slaging Ron/Mclaren off confused

Mercedes and Williams are believed to get $30MM regardless of performance.

McLaren gets $34.6MM regardless of performance.

So basically McLaren will receive from "Constructors Championship bonus fund" $34.6MM, $42.7MM equal share of the grid for being in top 10 constructor plus $42MM for finishing 5th in the WCC.

Final WCC standings for McLaren affect their total payments for the season like so (all on the assumption Joe Sawards payment structure is roughly correct).

5th = $120MM
6th = $116MM
7th = $107MM
8th = $102MM
9th = $98MM
10th = $94MM
11th = $34.6MM

Even if Sawards figures are wrong so long as the general principle is correct the short answer is Jenson made little difference to McLarens earnings despite absolutely hammering KMag. In other words it matters little in the negotiations especially when his salary is believed to be $20MM compared to KMags $1.2MM.

Haven't done figures but guessing KMag would have to be driving around at Caterham pace to make this relevant.

Now if Jenson was being paid the kind of money Massa gets, $5MM, then it would make sense. Trouble is with Alonso coming into the team with what's believed to be a $30MM salary from Ferrari that would be a serious kick in the face for JB to accept $25MM less than Alonso. Guess who's going to be the number 2 driver in that scenario.

My view is unless JB is prepared to race for $5MM he won't be at McLaren.

Unless.... Honda really think they are in with a shout of WCC at their first attempt, which is fantasy land, but Honda might believe it.

Remind me again who employed Sam Michael and Jenson Button at McLaren?

I bet that's the one hell of an obstacle for a man of Ronzo's ego to get over. One down...

Ah millions. It's used a lot at work so I find myself using it outside out of habit.

ie. $10MM is ten million dollars. Same as $10M.

Ah, never seen that before, I've always just used M in my business when referring to multi-million deals. I wonder what the reason is? Million ends in N not M and Millions ends in S. Most strange.

on what basis though? genuine question

he spanked Alonso today (as he has done a few times this season), he's pissed all over his "young, talented, driven, go-getting" team-mate.

whilst i'm all for younger drivers getting in (there does seem remarkable longevity in this lot), i just can't see why you would replace the older guys- they all seem to be as quick if not quicker than the the new guys (bar ricciardo and he's hardly "new"), but with more to offer.

I think Jensen is as good as the car under him you only have to look at his team mate's results to know he is far from finished.

As confirmed by the apparent total lack of interest from any other F1 team for many months now.

IMO Button's Championship was more about his car, and his stats compared with Hamilton are more to do with Hamilton's slump than Button's inherent speed. Nice guy, but the real deal? Whitmarsh and Button were a perfect match.

Prove me wrong...

Aren't the figures in that diagram from last year?

Either way, I tend to agree that the difference between 5th and 6th in the WCC wouldn't be a good line of argument.

I strongly suspect it's irrelevant anyway and that RD has his mind mind up.
