Welcome back Jenson?

I'm not sure that the hiring Alonso is about the extra points. I think it's the name.
Honda coming back into the sport wanted one of the big name drivers to be driving the car (which by all accounts was either Ham, Vet or Alonso).
By bringing Alonso in and having Honda power makes them "marketable" (is my assumption).
There's an element of this for sure. Honda will have a lot of NSXs to flog soon (FI V6, hybrid, etc) and someone marketable will be useful.Honda coming back into the sport wanted one of the big name drivers to be driving the car (which by all accounts was either Ham, Vet or Alonso).

(The bonus question right now is which of the drivers looks 'salesy' while holding a fire extinguisher?)

Granted. But.
KMAG's sponsor deal is worth around 30M to McLaren.
I have no idea what JB brings.
McLaren are set to bag around 90M this year due to their standing in the constructors.
JB has more than doubled KMAG's points haul this season, therefore he has pulled in around 60M worth of that prize money, meaning on the balance of it they have brought around the same worth to the team this season.
Interesting if that is true KMAG's sponsor deal is worth around 30M to McLaren.

So that's it, Ron has some Dilbert-like cunning plan.He ensures the team perform badly, deflating the value of McLaren, then picks up the shareholding he wants at a knock-down price.
Genius! Just when we all thought he was a total ass. Not so silly after all then

Have a look at a post of mine in this thread on November 22nd. Summarises most of it there.
Or google Anders Holch Povlsen, Bestseller, ASOS, Dorte Riis Madsen
Or read
http://www.business.dk/navne/bestseller-boss-skoed...
Would Anders Holch Povlsen think he's getting effective exposure for his spend? It's possible brand exposure is secondary to the exposure of having a Dane, and therefore Denmark, on the grid. Not forgetting the association of having himself as part of the F1 circus.
As I understand it ASOS bring $6m USD. Or google Anders Holch Povlsen, Bestseller, ASOS, Dorte Riis Madsen

Thats some way off 30m Euros that people are claiming Magnussen brings to the team. I do not see any other personal sponsors, so either:
- ASOS do spend 30m with the team (which would be about a fifthof netir net value, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASOS.com)
- KMag has other, silent backers
- KMag doesn't bring anything like 30m to the team
A work colleague is currently trying to decide between a Mclaren 650 spider and a Huracan (lucky sod), to some degree the way Mclaren have treated JB is a consideration for him as it paints a picture of the company and how they manage people which could then impact on customers.
A 650s was in our office car park this week for him to test drive, but he didnt because he was too busy!

IIRC, ASOS has been a McL sponsor (on occasions)for a few years.
So these sponsors McL have had, and with whom they want to do more (or rather, extract more money from) are the real reasons why McL (Whitmarsh at the time) stated they had signed Kevin "because he is a remarkable talent and we have to move to secure him before someone else does" (or words to that effect).
Summary: Kevin was being pursued by other teams ahead of this season because he brought more money than Perez (hence Perez was dispatched to FI).
It's all starting to make more sense now.

Povlsen and his company Bestseller are the largest shareholders in ASOS.
The 30M is likely to have been confused with 30-40M kroner which is <> 6M USD. But the figure is largely irrelevant. What is key though is that KMag has, currently, committed backers and Jenson is a salaried driver near the end of his career.
What would a proud Danish billionaire rather see? A British guy in F1 or a potential Danish WDC?
This stalling is surely only for Ron to see just how much Povlsen is prepared to back KMag.

Has anyone pointed out yet that jenson outpointed lewis during their 3 years together at mclaren?
No, pelase tell us all. (again)They were a great pairing, when you consider they were both winning races it's a sad reflection on McLaren's current state.

Jenson is a nice boy, but that ain't goin to happen
Alonso is not all that, he has a great hype and aura around him and insists on number 1 position and development to the car to suit him, not done much good, I'd bet Button on equal terms would give him a run for his money.Scuffers said:

Only in one year, not all three.... (and you might want to count DNF's)rigga said:

"With Nico Hulkenberg becoming the latest Formula One driver set to compete in top-level sports car racing, he won’t be the last. At least one additional high profile driver is poised to make the switch to the FIA WEC next year, with an announcement expected next month"
Who could that be I wonder?

Well the team principals normally vote him the guy they want in their car most years. JB would give him a good run, just like Nico gave LH a good run, yes I agree. All great drivers, apart, obviously, from Kimi.
Which would explain why he currently has no drive, and why Merc and Red Bull said an immediate 'no' when he asked them for a drive.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
