Well the team principals normally vote him the guy they want in their car most years. JB would give him a good run, just like Nico gave LH a good run, yes I agree. All great drivers, apart, obviously, from Kimi.
Which would explain why he currently has no drive, and why Merc and Red Bull said an immediate 'no' when he asked them for a drive.BritishRacinGrin said:
I don't think it's Bernie that wants a race in Denmark or Magnussen. It is I suspect more likely KMags backers dangling the prospect of a Danish race and it's associated fees plus additional sponsorship under the nose of Bernie to garner his support for KMag.Against that kind of support Jenson has little chance of retaining his seat at McLaren even if he drove for free.
Magnussen has been the blue eyed boy for McLaren's young driver programme for at least 4 years. I am sure they won't mind me saying that they do not run it like Red Bull run theirs. I wasn't aware he brought any sponsors with him though; it's not something they require of any of their young drivers, but I am speaking of 2011 to 2013, so it's possible RD may have moved the goalposts on that one, but as I say, Mag didn't bring anyone with him when he joined the programme.

I remember everyone, even the likes of Jackie Stewart, thinking his dad was an exceptional talent, the next Senna etc, and look what happened to him.MG511 said:

... And I remember Senna and Mansell being awesome - their offspring / nephews were good, but never awesome. Likewise, Bernie is something of a force of nature, whilst his offspring are utterly pointless, st induviduals. One cannot judge a person by looking at their relatives. RichB said:
iven that it's been raised in just about every thread mentioning Button in the last week or so I think Hairyben was being sarcastic!
Not to mention at least every other page of this whole thread... anyway it's a new page now, and what I think we're overlooking is that button ACTUALLY out-pointed hamilton over the course of their 3 years together.MG511 said:

Good point. On that note, when has the son of an F1 driver ever outperformed their dad?
Hill? Villeneuve? Rosberg? Piquet? Verstappen? (any others I've missed??)

I was giving Jan as an example of someone who was a blue eyed boy but never made the cut rather than implying F1 driving talent was 100% genetic. I haven't seen anything from KM this year that would indicate he was worthy of the boy eyed boy tag.MG511 said:

Jan Magnussen's issue was never a lack if talent, even JYS mentions that in his autobiography, what he lacked was the commitment to the full on fitness regime that was starting to become the norm in F1, and as an extra negative refused to give up the fags as well... It made him hard work for teams to get the best out of and when you're only a young driver that's not what they want to see.llewop said:

Almost all of Jacques success was in the first two years of a decade long career.

Gilles- 6 wins, 13 podiums, 2 poles & 8 fastest laps from 68 starts.
Jacques- WDC, 11 wins, 23 podiums, 13 poles and 9 fastest laps from 164 starts. Almost all of Jacques success was in the first two years of a decade long career.
The man in the Clapham omnibus might, on viewing those stats, conclude that Jacques was the better of the two Villeneuves. If so, he would be hideously wrong. Jacques- WDC, 11 wins, 23 podiums, 13 poles and 9 fastest laps from 164 starts. Almost all of Jacques success was in the first two years of a decade long career.

Sold out to the French? By employing the German Frentzen. To be fair to Frank, Hill was off the boil in 95 and didn't look a good bet for 96, by the time he had sorted himself out it was too late. Not sure what the country has to do with it either, Williams have often not had British drivers and I doubt Damon feels stabbed in the back considering he was given the opportunity Williams gave him.
Very true and had it not been for a slight hiccup in Adelaide in 94 he'd havve had two titles just like his dad. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
