Good to see Jenson Button is still doing a bit of product placement for McLaren, even whilst he is on holiday and even whilst he is being treated shoddily...

I think it's got to that point now with McLaren and their nontalk that if you were in Jenson's shoes you'd have to wonder whether you want to be associated with a team like this.

After going through the thought process of 'next year's car might be alright, new engine, maybe sort out the chassis a bit more' through to the 'Hmm...they're not talking contracts with me yet, better have a think about plan B' on to 'fk, I hope they offer me something, anything' I think I'd be at a point now of thinking 'this lot are jokers, if I drive for them next year I'm gonna look like a cock'

I'd bail now, even if it's retirement and walk with dignity intact

The way he has behaved, no matter what McLaren do I think his dignity is intact - he has behaved with poise throughout - far more so that I can imagine any other driver on the current F1 grid managing actually.

I'd agree with that.

I think what I'd want to avoid if I were him is that 'Briton's hopes dashed' type headline when McLaren actually do put something to paper and announce it

If he doesn't get kept on it means there will only be one British driver in F1 next season. frown

I think if Jenson said no to an offer from Ron, poor old Ron would bust a blood vessel.

Probaly just after Hunt retired. I think the only British driver was Watson.

Well that's what happens when you have no British talent coming through...

(looks at current GP3, GP2 champions)

I am a big Button fan and although I would like him to stay in Formula 1 next year I think it is best if he finishes and tries something else like WEC.I think there is only one person who has won two FIA world championships,Petter Solberg so it would be a good target for Button to spend the next few years in the WEC to try to become the second person and perhaps a Le Mans winner.

McLaren and Honda are hyping up their engine but I have a feeling they will be nowhere next year and if Marussia and Caterham are not there Mclaren could well be last in the championship and have a season like Lotus had last year.

Mercedes started developing their hybrid engine in 2010 so about three and a half years before the start of the 2014 season where as Honda have probably only started two years ago.Mercedes will be stronger next year so all their teams will beat McLaren including Lotus.Red Bull will be in the top three teams.Ferrari will be reasonably good and think Sauber and Toro Rosso will have reliability therefore pushing McLaren to last position.

I would not want to be Ron,Eric,Alonso and his team mate as they will have a nightmare and I have put a £100 bet on McLaren finishing last in the championship next year.

I really think that what I said above will happen but if Button is named as team mate to Alonso I will have to pray for a miracle and if Jenson wins the WDC I will be happy to lose my bet, perhaps not as 25k will come in handy.

I would pay to see that

at this rate we're going to be on the grid in oz before we find out. then what? they employ the stig and keep the suspense going?

button should probably go, he deserves better than hanging around being mclarens desperate fall back ho for what will undoubted be a st car anyway, can't see any big teams picking him up for 2016> and the midfields mostly pay/package drivers these days.

far as mclaren have fallen (and thats further than many think, with the bottom falling out at lotus mclaren should have got 4th this year to stay level with last season as I see it) thats unlikely.... unless freddy does '07 take 2.

Maybe the data McLaren are waiting for are the results of the lie detector tests from Alonso to see if he actually has changed his views of McLaren since 2007.

Me being Jenson (and I'm far from it) but if there was an offer from Ron I'd take it, with a view to keeping your foot in the door and taking a drive in 2016 with maybe Williams when the driver marker has opened up a bit. That would be a fitting end to a glittering career.
