ETA I suspect subscribers won't see this:

Ah.

In summary, the author (Edd Straw) thinks JB should be kept on due to his experience.

I can only hope FA has painted himself into a corner and is left without a drive for next year, just desserts IMHO.
Has he though? only Vettel has handed in his notice, Alonso still has two seasons left on his Ferrari contract. His options are a) drive for Ferrari, b) drive for someone else or c) £30/£40m to sit out the next two years/retirement. If anyone is in trouble it could well be Raikkonen.
I thought FA had sought and obtained a release from his Ferrari contract?

I would suggest that JB does not seem bothered regarding a seat next year because he's not bothered about a seat next year.

He knows he's reaching the twilight if not more of is career, he's an extremely rich man, and why would he go to a two bob team for the sake of another years drive.

I think if he loses the McLaren seat he will retire from F1.

Then go on to other Motorsports, probably Sportscars and earn even more money, and still have a very attractive half Japanese girlfriend.

I think his dignity is preventing him scrabbling around for a 2 bit drive. Good on him I say.

I hope he stays on and is paired with Alonso... they are similar in that their quali sessin laps are often not quite there - but then race day; they perform. Alonso is obviously considered the better driver but, like with Lewis and KMag; Button may just surprise us...

It would be a bit of a PR blow to Honda if he wasn't kept on then signed for Toyota's WEC team biggrin

JB has repeatedly said that he isn't considering any other form of motorsport than F1 so WEC seems a bit unlikely - unless Honda go for that too; after all, they will then have a suitable engine/powerplant/call it what you will.

I know that sounds daft but when I said that MCL would have Honda engines, simply, on the back of that cartoon they ran a couple of years ago with the Honda robot in it nobody believed me.

Maybe JB should follow in his dad's footsteps and do Rallycross.........................

I think that Button is unfortunate (if that is the right word) to not be a flamboyant driver or have a mercurial temperament. He seems to be a much better driver than he gets the credit for, but lacks the pizzaz or "wow!" factor of some of the other drivers. For some reason, being consistent, not crashing very often and scoring well regularly doesn't seem to count as much as diving into non-available space and crashing out.

Well I have not seen anything "official" saying he (FA) has been released / left the team, BUT ... when the F1 rumour mill is in overdrive like it is now, with so many different sources confirming it (and now, no denials even from Ferrari in recent weeks) it's fair to say it's reality.
I'm of the view that FA thought he had it all his own way until Seb pulled a blinder, FA is arrogant enough to believe he's bigger than F1.

I don't think so. I think he believes he has more championships in him, but he's also getting older and can't afford to prat about with teams that are constantly under-delivering. He knows he needs a gamble if he's going to get another WDC within the next three to four years.

McLaren have under-achieved for years so quite what Fred is expecting from McLaren next year, should he move to them, is beyond me.

Far better I would have thought to stay with Ferrari until this time next year & then see what happens at Mercedes & McLaren.

However Fred, being Fred, seems to think that McLaren is the better bet. More championships in him? I doubt it due to the many younger, hungrier drivers in F1 now.

The Finger seems to have dropped Fred in the st, shame - not, & I would be so happy if McLaren did the sensible thing & retained Button & Magnusson leaving Fred without a drive.

.. and Button & Kev are fighting it out for the WDC in 2015!

the bit that made me laugh:

Yahoo News South Africa said:
McLaren Jenson Button 13 - Kevin Magnussen 3 Race: Button Button outqualified and outraced his rookie team-mate who finished 23 seconds down the road. Magnussen's weekend was compromised by a series of glitches, such as malfunctioning fuel flow sensors, but he coped with it all pretty well. Although the paddock is a sombre place after the Jules Bianchi accident, Magnussen is looking particularly downbeat right now and although they're still saying the right things, neither McLaren driver seems comfortable with his role in the team. Well done, Ron.

Or even better, even though I'm not a fan of his, would be The Finger taking the title in the car that Fred vacated.......

"Eric Boullier on McLaren's wait to name their 2015 driver line-up: "I know that doesn’t make it comfortable for Jenson and Kevin, but I have to think about McLaren first. We have to make sure we make the right decision.”

This would be the Eric Bouller who lost Kimi from Lotus to Ferrari before jumping ship himself.......
