I wonder how renewed talk of 3 car teams the possible demise of a a team or two will effect the current driver merry go round.
Surely too late to go 3 car teams for 2015? Alternative would be an F1 rookie class team using a purchased chassis and engine?davepoth said:
Probably not. It's really quite cheap to run 3 cars compared to 2, and I guess initially it won't be compulsory. The grid would still be 26 cars, so I guess qualifying will go to four rounds in future. It won't take long for a couple of the teams (Sauber, Caterham) to go bust, and then you're down to a maximum 24 car grid.
$20 million extra according to Clare Williams when asked the other week.TuxMan said:
Great race by JB , used his head when others did not and showed his race craft to finish a very good 4th !!!
Alonso Button next year should be the McLaren line up !!! Let the rookie go , he proved today he is not up to the job !!
This. Great call by JB to move onto the intermediate wet tyres when he did - once again proving his great skill in those conditions, and his ability to call a race without nannying from his engineers.Alonso Button next year should be the McLaren line up !!! I would love to see him stay at McLaren, but I fear he will lose out. If McLaren do bin him, I would love to see Kimi call it quits, Grosjean to Ferrari and JB to a Mercedes-engine, rejuvenated Lotus team.
Oh, and off topic rant, but as F1 indulges in its latest round of navekl gazing as to why it is losing popularity, can they please consider speaking plain English - today Coulthard was babbling on about the "pitstop delta". Eventually I realised what he meant was how long a pitstop took...

Yep, JB 4th, and but for a precautionary steering wheel change could have ended up 3rd.
Oh, and he didn't have a few off track excursions either.
Oh, and he speaks Jap as well.
JB was definitely classified 5th.Oh, and he didn't have a few off track excursions either.

Whilst I need sub-titles for Rab C. Nesbit, DC is becoming less distinct with his commentary. If JB is not required in an F1 car sometime soon, I feel he would be the right man for the job. Despite his Zummerset / West Country origins, he's far from speaking with a wurzel accent ... Oh arrrh!Lee McKensie is from North of the Border. I can hear her every word quite clearly.

Actually yes, JB as a commentator would work well I suspect - is Brundle retiring anytime soon?!Lee McKensie is from North of the Border. I can hear her every word quite clearly.
And I wish the BBC would replace Suzi Perry with Lee McKenzie - Lee McK has greater knowledge, a much less wooden style, and is much better when she has to go off script.

Can't imagine button wanting or needing the money enough to be getting into commentating, even though I hope I'm wrong. I'd imagine his retirement would be spent putting more time into triathlon and cycling, along with some WEC racing potentially. I might have imagined this, but when BAR were banned for two races for the trick fuel system thing, didn't JB join the commentary team for the Monaco GP? Yes I'd always thought he was a bit of a twasok until then but as I remember he can across as very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and intelligent.MiniMan64 said:
Aren't the teams obliged to run three cars if others drop out? Is there a minimum number of cars for the grid?
Imagine if Merc, RB, Ferrari and McL all had to run 3 cars next year? That would make for some interesting line ups!

Brundle made an astute comment, Button has been around for a long time, its now October and if Button is leaving McLaren there aren't really many spots.
So what are the chances he's got something signed / knows what he's doing but is contractually bound not to say anything whilst other matters are sorted ?
I then recalled what he said at the start of the weekend "Don't ask me about contracts, I can't talk about it".
Not "I don't know" or "I'm working on it" but "I can't talk about it".
I can quite believe that Ron would fib to the media ("I have no drivers contracted for next year"), Button could just be being totally honest.
Maybe its even more complicated and relies on what Alonso does ? and Button has a "in principle" agreement ?
