Jules Bianchi updates
Discussion
It makes me even sadder that this is running alongside the Bottas to Ferrari story. You have to wonder whether had things been different Bianchi would have spent a season in a Sauber before replacing Kimi in the Ferrari. I'd hoped that's where he would go.
This announcement was totally what I'd expected given his Father's recent statements about his condition and discussions with Jules about 'what if' following Michael Schumacher's skiing accident. But I guess I was always holding out some hope. Really very sad now.

The second f1 head injury related death in two years. Very tragic.
I wonder if there will be a review of head protection in f1. I remember a few years back Schumacher nearly had his head taken off by a Force India that rode over the top of the Merc; I'm not sure what can be done apart from enclosing the cockpit - do we just accept this as a (extremely tragic) acceptable risk of motor racing?

Given his fathers statement on 13th July ( "If he had a severe handicap, we are convinced that is not what Jules would want. We talked about it. He discussed with us that if one day he had an accident like that of Michael Schumacher, that even if his only handicap was not being able to drive, he would have a lot of difficulty living. Because it was his life." ) I think it is perhaps a decision on his families part to discontinue life support, that has provided them & Jules with relief from this awful limbo that he seemed unable to escape from.
A brave and gut wrenching decision for them if that is the case, and as his father said, it is not how Jules would have wished to live his life, paraplegic or worse in a wheelchair.
Looking apart from his racing talent & prospects, a tragically early end to a vibrant young mans life.
