I'm sure he'll end up somewhere, but I don't really care much where.
Cared enough to comment though.

Agreed, nice enough lad & a competent & solid driver. Can hold his head up & be proud of his time at the pinicle of motor sports.

Achieved a lot more than some on here smile
Absolutely.

He gets far too much abuse on here.
Bang on, in most race series 2 wheels or 4 there are a lot more people paying for there seat compared to those paid to race, a lot being paid to race are paid from there personal sponsor not the actual team.

Re chilton I can see him having a fairly long career in endurance racing , a series I see on the up with people turning away from f1 due to the cost , btcc due to the shocking driver standards combined with a influx of decent drivers such as webber and button.

This is the Daily Mail, just think mumsnet and you'll know why that's their interpretation of 'real' women.

We all know Max was never going to be the next Lewis Hamilton, but I think he did a solid, professional job in 2 seasons in F1. He was generally a couple of tenths behind the highly-rated Bianchi, made very few mistakes, almost always brought the car home, was involved in very few incidents and was generally Mr Reliable.

He would be ideally suited to top level Endurance racing.
By my calculations he was roughly on average half a second slower in quali this year and quite often there would Caterham between Jules (ahead) and Max when they both finished.

Bye, bye Max, you won't be missed but good luck to your motorsport career.

Hope he gets decent drive in WEC.

Well spoken, a clean driver - a decent enough guy representing the UK.

Good luck.

Indeed. Max and Tom shared an LMP1 car at Silverstone a few years ago. Max was just going into F3 so it was a big step. Tom is a decent Prototype driver too, so it would be a strong team.

Agree with this, one thing he did achieve was a consistent finishing record, he bought the car home in one piece something like 25 times before an issue, in WEC you need drivers who can take care of the car, and bring it back for their team mate

I could also see him in Indycar as some-one else pointed out.

Where are the fat girls, has the picture changed??

Back O.T. I do wonder how many of us would be able to man handle a Marussia round an F1 track to the same standard as Max.

It could be that Bianchi really is the real deal and Chilton is second only to him?

Woah there ... stop being reasonable on the internet!

In an ideal world there'd be one race a year where everyone swaps cars so we get Chilton in a Mercedes, Fernando gets a Caterham and Maldonado gets a go in the safety car ...

It's possible and I don't mean to run the guy down as it's very difficult to judge someone from the comfort of your sofa when he's running around in a poor car at the back of the grid with no hope of ever getting the car much further up the grid.

When I said Formula E above I wasn't being facetious. I genuinely believe he'd be a good driver in that series with closely matched cars. Very personable guy in interviews too so would be good for the series.

Much as I dislike Max 'The Wallet' Chilton, I think that's a very good point. He was indeed very safe and reliable, which is exactly what you want in an Endurance driver (but not, necessarily, in an F1 driver). Maybe that would be a good move for him.

I don't understand the hate towards Max. Sure his dad is rich.. but if you were rich wouldn't you put your kids into a career that they want, and most people can't? I would.

He did a solid job, and deserves a shot in racing in other series. GT racing, LMP, etc. There are plenty of average-at-best drivers in lower formula which get paid.

Max was reliable, safe, didnt push over his limits, didnt stress the car, beaten by a very talented teammate being groomed by Ferrari.

LMP2 would be a good home for him. Hopefully he gets a good drive. We might only have Hamilton as a British driver in F1 next season...

I wouldn't.

Props to Nigel Mansell. Greg was good enough for endurance racing (more than Leo) if daddy wanted it so.

Hate to say it but hanging around would be giving pay drivers a bad name. Max can competently drive an F1 car but sadly he can't perform in one.

Max is in the envious position of been there and done that in F1 but I'd rather he had success elsewhere.

If I'm going to be charitable, I'll say that Max can hold his head up high as "didn't fk up" and "is a solid dependable (if uninspiring) helm" and can live the rest of his life as "ex-F1 driver Max Chilton" which has to be worth a few bob. And, fair play to him, his record of 'number of consecutive finishes' is very impressive, so long as you don't qualify it with 'invariably in last place'.
