Not sure how much Sky really did poach people, Brundle (who was out of contract) said that they didn't even approach him about a renewal.

For me, the BBC went off the boil just before Sky took over, the forums had no real structure and felll in to chaos, with EJ sprouting random stuff, DC taking the piss out of him and Jake gurning at the camera smugly.

One of the big plus points of Sky is programs like the one thats on now (interview with John Barnard) and all the "legends" driver interviews.

I'm of the opinion (and I know others will disagree with me) that the Sky F1 coverage has been the best coverage we have ever had in the UK. Even better than the BBC coverage in the year before the Sky deal started (which in itself was the pinnacle of BBC's coverage).
I've got to say I agree, they've had the perfect mix for me and go some way to compensating for paying Rupert evry month

Sky coverage is brilliant, often my favourite bit being Ted's Notebooks, all the behind the scenes stuff etc.

My favourite BBC pre-show moment was EJ, DC and Jake(?) in the lift in Monaco.

Kudos to Jenson too, demolishes the other McLaren (pay) Driver in the race and championship. Also beats the self proclaimed driving God alonso too!
You're not suggesting KM is paying for his drive, are you?
Certainly not, im sure around 30m from his personal sponsors to McLaren is nothing to do with it!
Who are these personal sponsors? I'm really interested, because McLaren have funded his career for the last few years. Just as they have with Vandoorne.

No poaching as the BBC were ending their F1 coverage IIRC after selling the rights to Sky, it was only when the BBC were reminded that they still had to present the minimum coverage as the free to air broadcaster that they put together what they have now.

See those big ASOS badges on the car? or the Jack Jones ones....

Stolen from the other thread..

I'm guessing most people haven't failed to notice the large ASOS logo on the McLaren rear wing. Maybe less so the Jack Jones branding who've been long time sponsors of KMag.

Jack Jones is run by Bestseller which is owned by ASOS. ASOS's largest single shareholder is Anders Holch Povlsen. Povlsen is estimated to be worth $4 billion personally and comes from a wealthy family estimated to be worth $30 billion. They are Danish and are backing KMag.

http://www.business.dk/navne/bestseller-boss-skoed...
"...but for CEO Anders Holch Povlsen his investments are apparently not going fast enough. He is the money man behind Kevin Magnussen's acceleration from Formula 3 to motorsports grandest class."

"According to BT newspaper http://www.bt.dk/ they estimate that Bestseller business via Jack & Jones' sponsorship has contributed the majority of the 40 million kroner ($6MM USD) expenses related to Kevin Magnussen's development towards the top."

"Bestsellers sponsorship has meant that Kevin has had access to the best teams in the world where he has got the chance to show how good he is. It has given us the freedom to define the ultimate career plan, because we have their support." said Magnussen's manager, Dorte Riis Madsen"

"Cooperation slowed however up with Magnussen's signature to the McLaren team. Formula 1 team has namely a sponsorship deal with clothing brand Hugo Boss, and it prevents the young Dane's collaboration with another textile company

Agree, Teds Note book is always interesting to hear and see what goes on behind the scenes, like the feature they did on how they edit the features.
I like the fact it's a dedicated channel that when it's not a race weekend they do historical features and re-run old races. Quite often I have it streaming on my iPad all day.

Superb coverage from Sky, I moved for Brundle but the whole package is very solid now. They pick up on so many things that the BBC miss, and the pre and post race stuff is excellent (love Teds Notebook), it's so much slicker than the BBC Forum whilst still maintaining the banter etc.

Massive kudos to Hamilton for wanting to keep #44 as well, I wonder if Merc will let him.

BBC's days covering F1 races are numbered.

It's more a case of if the FIA will let him, I would think.

I suspect that Mercedes will want #1 to adorn Lewis's car next season.

FIA gives the option of using #1 or their driver number, so it is up to hamilton.. Of course, whether mercedes will push the issue is another story

Perhaps. But then again, Toto, Paddy and Niki have shown time and time again this season that they really *get* racing so perhaps they will be sympathetic.

I'm not sure what the precedent is for the current WDC not racing under #1 - I don't think there is one. Damon Hill's #0 in 1993 and 1994 was because in each case the reigning WDC was not racing that year.

Ah, ok. So the option is reserved rather than it being mandated?

In that case perhaps it is down to Merc then. I think Toto, Paddy and Niki will be sympathetic to the request in that case. Whether or not they are overruled by the Marketing Department remains to be seen. smile

The 30m figure is widely reported, and by very reliable outlets too.
