Likelyhood that Lewis would have congratulated Nico if he was champion? Probably less than zero.
You're right, he looked pretty sore to miss out in 2010...Okay, so not an entirely similar scenario, given that there were 4 drivers who could win it. But he went in to that race only 9 points behind Seb. You could say that he didn't expect to win the title, but you could equally say the same for Nico today. For Lewis to lose would have taken a lot of bad luck. Even though Nico did have bad luck, he would have known in his mind that it was likely going to be Lewis' day. So psychologically defeat would have been very different for both of them.
That said, big respect to Nico - both for continuing on to the flag, and for congratulating Lewis so soon after.

12 laps to go Massa had a 12 second lead, Lewis was closing but not by much and the soft tyres had very low degradation this weekend.
Looking at their lap times I thought Massa had the race in the bag but then the team decide to pit him in for s/softs. Bad team call?
No, he had to use two compounds. Looking at their lap times I thought Massa had the race in the bag but then the team decide to pit him in for s/softs. Bad team call?
Slightly O/T.
I don't get tattoos at all, but whats the point of having one behind your lug hole? Not like you can look at yourself in a mirror and go, 'Oooh, how lovely, a nice artistic number 44 that looks like a 5 year old has drawn it'.
Back on thread now.
Well done Lewis, top year for you and the team. I heard from commentary that your reaction time from lights going out to car moving was 2/10ths. Thats pretty awesome, as the car itself has to react to input.
Try this. (We could have a PH thread on this, similar to the broadband speed thread..)

I was super impressed by Rosberg post race, went some way to repairing some of his allegedly dodgy antics through the season.
I think next year will be epic between them as they will NOT be sitting on their laurels.

I thought that Lewis was pretty humble in victory today & Nico gracious in defeat.
Class from both & great respect shown to each other.
Totally agree.Class from both & great respect shown to each other.
I think with the exception of some ill chosen words earlier in the year when Lewis spoke about 'breaking Nico mentally' he has conducted himself very maturely and very well. We've had quite a bit of sniping from Nico (the press conference for this event being one example) but I think Nico has been under intense pressure, more so than many people seem to realise. Several times this year it's looked like the championship was his only for Leiws to keep pulling it back. That has to be very hard to take (as has the number of wins). At the back of his mind will have been the thought that this could be his best chance to ever win the championship so you can understand his conduct slipping a little with all that frustration and pressure.
But credit to both men today, Nico for his conduct after the race, and Lewis for taking a very well deserved championship.

Just by the behavior I have seen them both display over this season, do you think he would have done?
Come on they were both gracious today, Nico in so by going into the top 3 room to congratulate Lewis and Lewis in his post podium speech with Brundle. RichB said:

Its not unlike a lot of sports - a bit of banter here & there & immense pressure.I think with the exception of some ill chosen words earlier in the year when Lewis spoke about 'breaking Nico mentally' he has conducted himself very maturely and very well. Be great if they are able to share a beer or two now the pressure is off both.

Agreed. It's interesting to contrast the conduct of both racers today with those of their respective supporters here. Nico Rosberg is certainly more of a gentleman than some of his fans on PH.hairyben said:

Ah, ok. So the option is reserved rather than it being mandated?
In that case perhaps it is down to Merc then. I think Toto, Paddy and Niki will be sympathetic to the request in that case. Whether or not they are overruled by the Marketing Department remains to be seen.

surely there's scope, eg 44 on the bonnet (and race under 44) with a stylised/layered no1 on the side of the nose?

I was a little worried for Lewis before Massa pitted, but I think in the laps leading up to Massa's stop Lewis had started taking lots of time out of him (15 secs to 12 secs in a couple of laps). And Lewis kept going quicker afterwards on those tyres (his fastest lap was 48 or 49). So I guess Williams ran the numbers and with Massa's long stint on those tyres knew that his lap times were dropping off and Lewis was going to catch and pass without a stop?
