12 laps to go Massa had a 12 second lead, Lewis was closing but not by much and the soft tyres had very low degradation this weekend.

Looking at their lap times I thought Massa had the race in the bag but then the team decide to pit him in for s/softs. Bad team call?
No, he had to use two compounds.
He'd already used both compounds.
ok
massa's tyres were going off, i think a late stop for options was always what they had their eye on. lewis was taking chunks of time out of him before the stop so maybe if he'd pitted a few laps earlier..? who's to say. probably close either way.

Lewis was still taking it easy, and just holding the gap. His engine was still turned down.

Hamilton drove a great race. The pressure must have been pretty huge and he's not unknown to make the odd rash mistake when under pressure. Everything from his start to the finish was a very mature drive and well deserved.

I felt a touch sorry for Nico Rosberg. I have my concerns regarding his conduct at times during the year but he was blighted with what seemed a 'friday afternoon' car for the the decider race and I get the feeling this may have been the best chance he's likely to get to win the title. (obviously I could be wrong on that one)

Great to see two Williams on the podium considering after their performance last year I thought they could have been in the similar situation as Sauber this year.. One mighty turn-around and great to seem.

Just putting it out there, Nico's wanting to finish was nothing to do with sportsmanship, it was in the feint hope Hamilton retired and half a dozen cars got flicked for wing deflection or similar.

Just a thought.
Sounds as unlikely as your spelling of faint.

But credit to both men today, Nico for his conduct after the race, and Lewis for taking a very well deserved championship.
Agreed. It's interesting to contrast the conduct of both racers today with those of their respective supporters here. Nico Rosberg is certainly more of a gentleman than some of his fans on PH.
I think you could apply that to both sets of fans, the delight at NR's mechanical troubles was pretty sad despite some people believing it is karma.

Try this. (We could have a PH thread on this, similar to the broadband speed thread..)

I was super impressed by Rosberg post race, went some way to repairing some of his allegedly dodgy antics through the season.
Ha that's fun. I got an average of 245ms.

ETA - oh and I was pretty disappointed with Brundle for ribbing Massa on the podium. Not often I would ever say that.
Just watched the interviews again and I have no idea what Brundle was meant to have said wrong, anyone? confused

He led the interview by bringing up how Massa lost the 2008 championship to Hamilton on the last corner. I thought it was a bit unfair and also a completely misplaced comment to make.

Really enjoyed the race it wasn't anything like I expected.
I think Lewis has grown up a lot this year and I think Nico has grown up a lot this weekend.
Like another previous post I hope they have a beer together they have been outstanding.
He is a worthy double Champion.

I'm of the opinion (and I know others will disagree with me) that the Sky F1 coverage has been the best coverage we have ever had in the UK. Even better than the BBC coverage in the year before the Sky deal started (which in itself was the pinnacle of BBC's coverage).
Agreed, in 20 years of really watching it, sky has stood out, the whole commentary team including the practice sessions etc have been excellent, knowledgable, respected and very likeable.

It also makes it a weekend of Motorsport which is again good, I like to catch up with the practice sessions in the morning and watch the GP3 and GP2 as well, even the classic races, interviews and features have been really good.

Just watching the fun the team have on a weekend, Simon has vastly improved to being a great anchor who has held it together rally well.

Well worth the fee and probably the best in sport full stop.
The last year of the beeb was the best actual race commentary I've ever heard but I think it was an inspirational accident- bbc had stopped caring about f1 so let the two drivers present it without a "proper trained presenter" type muppet which appealed to the hardcore fans more, but the overall sky coverage with all it's adornments is better, makes it more of an event.

That's a little off in my opinion.

Merc gave them both systems that were on their 3rd race. The level of testing and (especially for this race) checking would have been immense.

However, these are very complex systems, working in a massively challenging environment.

The problem is, a critical, very integrated component failed. This led to a nearly complete systemic failure. Hence the issues not only with reduced power, but throttle and braking.

The FMEA guys would have done the numbers - these things are always possible, at any time.

The fact it happened when it did isn't even bad luck - it's just statistics.

brundle bungled that didn't he. I thought he probably meant to say something like how he thought the race looked like apeing '08 with hamilton winning the title as massa wins the race but it came out all sort of awkward.

i expect Niki & Toto will ensure they are working well together again - next year may bring about new & stiffer competition.

Well, I am so happy for Lewis. I was ready to watch the GP when my other half decided she wanted to go to buy a sheepskin rug to go under the coffee table. It was a bit of a rush, so we left. Her "new to me" Megane coupe has no 3/4 rear vision so as I was making progress chopping thru traffic I did in my estimation about 3 grands worth of damage to her car and the clown that decided to overtake me on the inside that I did not see as I was changing lanes to avoid the prat that dumped all the brakes in lane 2 to turn right with no indication. So we exchanged details and went on to buy the rug.

We got back and tried the rug under the coffee table which made it totally unstable as it was too fluffy. I was really grumpy about the whole morning and settled to watch the GP preoccupied that I did not see the clown as he stormed up my near side., and how could I be so stupid etc... Couldn't focus on the race at all.

So, happy with the result, we left the apartment to go to a restaurant in the Marina where we live, had a couple of bottles of Moët to celebrate Lewis's success with cod and chips and a few Guinness / rose to finish. She is now totally plastered, asleep and is no way going to deliver on her promises this evening.

So all in all, given third party in her car, Lewis has cost me about £4k today, the rug is useless and I probably won't get any tonight. But I am so glad that he won it, - 11/5, he deserves it.

Good lad. Here's to number 3 next year, and less cost to me this to me please. Many congraulations Lewis.

Sorry perhaps my post was a bit misleading. I wasn't implying the car had been built badly. Really just mirroring what you're saying. Nico's car was plagued with problems....

Fantastic comment, to be fair if you live in a marina, 4 k is probably chicken feed, hope you get the promise in the morning lol
