The encouraging thing I saw reported from today's press briefing Ron Dennis held was that he said the concept of a title sponsor is no longer valid which indicates that he is not aiming for (or has given up on) getting one major one in the way Vodafone were most recently for them. Probably true that there are no single sponsors willing to spend that amount, with the exception of Red Bull I guess.
Ted's notebook just said he spoke to Ron about changing the colour...and Ron said "where's your cheque book"...as in the colour will change when someone stumps up the money.Adam Cooper @adamcooperF1 said:
Ron said the concept of title sponsor is outdated. Cost would usually be 40-50% of budget, and spend now so high no one can afford that
I am struggling to find the article again but I read something recently explaining that Bernie is effectively hoarding the big names sponsors and screwing over the teams
it explained how the likes of Vodafone paid something like £50m a year for title sponsorship of Mclaren, the effectiveness off this obviously depends on how well they are doing in each race. if the team does well it gets lots of tv time and coverage which justifies the outlay better.
The Rolex sponsorship of F1 as a whole cost them £120m for a 5 year deal, this is not dependant on who is doing what or who wins. Their logos are plastered all over the track and timing boards so are constantly in view
If you were a company with some advertising money to spend its a no brainer where you'd spend it.
(*because I couldn't find the article the numbers might be wrong as its from memory - but the jist is Bernie is undercutting and giving a better deal)

"We have had the same [discussions about livery] inside the team: all of these people were saying, why don't we make it orange - because that was the old colour of McLaren?" he said.
"Well, I say, 'you just said it - it was the old colour of McLaren. Why the hell do we want to go backwards?'McLaren have at least 3 shades of orange in their colour chart for those backward old McLaren road cars...
Nice PR job there Ron
Does seem odd they don't make more of their 'traditional' colours. It is very distinctive and would create a visual connection between the race and road cars. It needn't even be totally orange, it could be silver/black like they favour now but with orange detailing.Ron Dennis said:

Ah the wonderful Tokyo metropolitan areas railway map. Couple that with the horrendous tube map of Tokyo and much hilarity ensues as you waste hours of your life trying to find your way around the place.
Makes the London tube map look fantastically simple and well organised (which of course it is).
