Following on from my earlier requests on a similar thread, I thought it would just be far easier to ask the above million dollar question, pun intended.

Taken at face value, Caterham could not go racing without a £2,350,000.00 being raised, via 'Crowdfunding'.
Caterham are going racing.

Anyone on here paid?

Nice one.
Still a minor shortfall though.

Anyone else contribute to the Caterham-a-thon, on what is one of the largest motoring/motorsport forums in the world?

Maybe Caterham have found some money down the back of a carbon fibre settee?

Apart from the people who've lost their jobs (for whom I've got a lot of sympathy), does anyone actually give a st whether they race or not?

I actually own and drive a Caterham but that has not induced me to want to "help out" the F1 team.

In many ways, I WANT to see the current problems in F1 reach some sort of crisis level because much needs changing - and perhaps only a full blown crisis will bring about these changes.

Yes. Not because they are Caterham, but because of the wider implications of a depleted grid. Established teams like Lotus and Sauber are now back of the grid teams, which will impact their attractiveness to sponsors, which will impact their competitiveness, which will impact their attractiveness to sponsors, which will impact the ongoing viability of those teams...

Personally I'd be happy if they tore up the current F1 fiasco and started again from a clean sheet, from regulations to funding and particularly administration.

The last 2 races have been just as good without Caterham or Marussia to be honest. At least Minardi and Arrows used to have days where they were performing better than normal.

The only possible benefit to F1 from having hopeless teams like Caterham would be if blue flags and mirrors were banned, and they could then at least throw some uncertainty into the mix when it came to being lapped.

Ah - the days of the mobile chicanes - like René Arnoux in his latter career.

I miss all that - and James Hunt getting apoplectic.

Agreed. Couldn't care less if Caterham are there or not. I find the whole crowd funding initiative somewhat distasteful too. The team has been a joke from the moment Fernandes was involved.

If it were Sauber I'd probably care but Caterham F1 brought it all on themselves and then come out with begging bowls. Pretty poor.

I actually do have some sympathy for these smaller teams - who only entered the fray on the misunderstanding that costs were being capped. They've been well and truly mugged by the big boys.

However, the sooner the whole edifice comes crashing down the better for the "sport" in general.

Supporting a motor racing team in this way is completely unsustainable and will only delay the inevitable.

I've given them a tenner.

I wasn't going to, but then Horner said he thought it was "wrong, that it shouldn't be allowed". And Bernie started up about begging bowls and other tiresome out of date hyper-capitalist drivel.

So I figured if ten of my pounds helped irritate them, and maybe made them look silly then it would be worth it.

I understand how people feel about them making people redundant, and then going racing - but my guess is that if the team are still there in 2015, then some of them will be offered work.

I've also owned 3 Caterhams in the past and loved them. (and yes, I know the link is tenuous)

Irritating 'Crusty-Teeth Horner' is a worth while cause on its own!

To my amazement I've just seen a story that Bernie paid Caterham's travel costs.

"We've at least helped them to some degree, something we need not have done," Ecclestone added.

"We've even chartered another plane to take them [the staff].

"We've gone a little bit over the top, but anyway, we've done it."

I paid £20, all to the team, no 'reward'.

And a hypocrite, as he was the one saying he didn't want teams with begging bowls. Or does it not count because a cargo jumbo and a passenger plane won't fit in a bowl?
