Pardon my ignorance but does anyone know why there are no rev lights working on Lewis Hamilton's steering wheel? Noticed this in earlier races too.

I see they are working now but quite dull compared with other cars

as its a night race i assume the brightness has been reduced, just like other twilight/night races and probably in your road car too.

i like the way the backlight on the LCD screen changes when theyve got enough revs to get the next gear. nice ambient signal for the drivers smile

Not 100% on this, but I have a vague recollection that one of the commentators said he prefers having the beeps rather than the lights. Perhaps somebody with a better memory can confirm?

they all get a beep in their ear when its time to shift, too.

Good points Andy. But I noticed that on the other cars the lights were at full brightness. I wasn't aware that there were also beeps; so Lewis obviously prefers the lights not to be full brightness.
My car doesn't automatically adjust, and though I have to make an effort to dim them if I want them less bright, they are just right most of the time. A nice touch in this and my previous car of the same make and model is the 'night' mode - touch a button on the dash and all that shows is the speedo up to 70mph. Cool....

I find it interesting seeing how much variation there is between different drivers' setups. To me, it seems plain that you'd want the first two-thirds of the lights coming up with the revs, yellow then orange, with the remainder in red or blue flashing on all at once when you're at your shift point. This way you get decent indication of engine speed and an obvious shift indication that you don't need to look down for.

This feels like a simple fact to me, but there being so many different approaches floating around shows just how personal a choice it is!
