I wouldn't put any money on it, but Honda must by now have enough data to stop their engine blowing up, and they do have two very top drivers. I think it will be interesting to see if they persevere with the size-zero thing, of if they junk the whole idea and copy Merc. Surely the axial compressor has been shown to be inferior to a whopping huge turbo for regenerating energy and must be dropped.

It sounds like target for next season will be to challenging Williams/Red Bulls...

Competition is far tougher, you have force India, soon to be Renault f1....

I can see an unhappy Alonso going into the first race next season.

MG CHRIS said:
So the big question for next year will manor and hass beat them considering one is a Ferrari b team and the other has a merc engine and partnership with Williams.
I certainly wouldn't bet against that....

I think Honda have a bigger mountain to climb this winter than they did last year....

It's no wonder that Ron said last weekend, that he was definitely able to confirm that he can't confirm Alonso will definitely be driving for them next year.....laugh

It would be interesting to the fall out if JB and Alonso decide to both walk away after the end of the winter tests, if the '16 McHonda is still dog slow compared to the rest of the entries....

I think Honda could solve most issues pretty quickly now. They must have the plans to sort them after the run time they had this year.

It seems the size zero idea didn't work. Too small a turbo that couldn't run enough boost due to packaging as it produced too much heat which caused issues in itself. So if this crap token system slows for enough change to sort the issues they should be up on power and reliability next year. But then so will Manor and FerrHASSi will also be quick out the blocks. The back end of the grid will be an interesting one, even if merc walk it again.

You don't try and run turbo's hot. quite the opposite, you want them to produce the required airflow with the least amount of heat being generated into the charge air.

Based on the limited information out there, it suggests the turbo design either has too small an exhaust housing flow rate to get the combustion gasses out, or has too small a compressor housing capacity, so it cant get the required airflow into the engine in an efficient manner, generating more charge air temperature and requiring a higher boost level to obtain the same airflow as a more efficient compressor.

It's very easy to build an out of balance turbo that can flow the inlet air, but cant let the resultant exhaust gasses out, and vice versa. Designing the balance right is not at all easy, there are compromises to be made at both ends, although this is somewhat mitigated now with the use of electrical assistance on the spool up stage, which enables a larger flow rate to be achieved with relatively less lag compared to a none assisted turbo.

Didn't realise that Alosno set the third fastest lap of the last GP:

Basically on low fuel with the softest tyres and the engine turned up to 11 and Alonso going for it with nothing to lose, but it didn't go pop which is encouraging.

I have to say, I am counting down the days to testing, I so hope they turn it around this year.
