Has this detuned Honda engine thing actually been confirmed anywhere?
I've seen it all over the forums today but mentioned no where in the press?
Ron Dennis said it yesterday - http://www1.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/9758139/ro...I've seen it all over the forums today but mentioned no where in the press?
Honda have also said it, googled it - http://www.racer.com/f1/item/114370-honda-detunes-...

In a post race interview Button has referred to fuel saving - if the Honda unit is that thirsty even when turned down that he had to drive to conserve fuel then it looks like McLaren have little chance of scoring any points this year
His engine was turned down as well?!?! Ah heck.FourWheelDrift said:

The joys of modern F1, there's nothing quite as exciting to watch as a few laps of all out wheel to wheel fuel saving...
My worry is more that is has no power, but still uses enough fuel to need to conserve. What on earth will it be like when they have to go and actually race?.I hope Honda are working 24/7 on this. IN fact I bet they are, it does not exactly look good for them right now does it?!?!

It was on Ted's post race technical meanderings. Don't know where he got it from. I've seen it all over the forums today but mentioned no where in the press?

It came from an interview with Eric Boullier . Think he said they were at power 5 out of 10 and needed to turn it up to 8 immediately; but in a French accent.
No way the engine was only on half power as I know the Force India has not been run much but they have a good Merc edes engine and Jenson had a good battle with Perez for about 20 laps.I think that the problem with the Honda engine is that it is 100 BHP down on Mercedes if it is on full power,is quite thirsty and is way behind and unlikely to catch up until at least 2016.
Why is the engine so bad and the seals leaking at the tests surely the engine has been run on the dyno at the Honda facility in Japan between i and 10 power for several months.I know they are probabbly a year behind the other manufactors but it should be better than it was at the first race.
I am guessing the engine itself may be ok and they are struggling with the hybrid bits, battery, harvesting etc etc and software problems not talking to each other.
My biggest ptoblem is the Head of Honda engines and Eric Boullier dont seam to know what they are talking about and does not inspire confidence.
They may stand a chance of more points at a circuit which is less about outright power than Canada, but Honda really need to get their act together - least powerful engine on the grid ( allegedly ) and also the thirstiest is not a good combination, especially when combined with dodgy reliability I suspect if Honda weren't pumping £millions into McLaren Ron would already be looking for a new engine
