Has this detuned Honda engine thing actually been confirmed anywhere?

I've seen it all over the forums today but mentioned no where in the press?

Ron Dennis said it yesterday - http://www1.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/9758139/ro...

Honda have also said it, googled it - http://www.racer.com/f1/item/114370-honda-detunes-...

In a post race interview Button has referred to fuel saving - if the Honda unit is that thirsty even when turned down that he had to drive to conserve fuel then it looks like McLaren have little chance of scoring any points this year frown
His engine was turned down as well?!?! Ah heck.
The joys of modern F1, there's nothing quite as exciting to watch as a few laps of all out wheel to wheel fuel saving...

Hard to say but I'm sure we can look forward to some good battles between Manor and McLaren this season. wink

Cheers for that, I wonder at what point they'll turn the wick back up!

If the ERS are harvesting less then there's less to deploy, so you use more engine power/fuel

nothing to do with fuel usage/HP of ICE

Does Magnussen's blow up count as one of Alonso's four for the season? You could argue that the failure would have happened anyway to Alonso if he was in the car at the time, but it's pretty tough if he arrives at his first race of the season already an engine down.

My worry is more that is has no power, but still uses enough fuel to need to conserve. What on earth will it be like when they have to go and actually race?.

I hope Honda are working 24/7 on this. IN fact I bet they are, it does not exactly look good for them right now does it?!?!

It was on Ted's post race technical meanderings. Don't know where he got it from.

They will beat Manor, Sauber and that's about it.

Once Sauber settle with vdG that's their budget gone, can't see them developing much over the season.

It depends on what sort of settlement Sauber and GvdG come to. If his father in law takes a share of the company then the budget might increase. Who knows?

It came from an interview with Eric Boullier . Think he said they were at power 5 out of 10 and needed to turn it up to 8 immediately; but in a French accent.

No way the engine was only on half power as I know the Force India has not been run much but they have a good Merc edes engine and Jenson had a good battle with Perez for about 20 laps.

I think that the problem with the Honda engine is that it is 100 BHP down on Mercedes if it is on full power,is quite thirsty and is way behind and unlikely to catch up until at least 2016.

Why is the engine so bad and the seals leaking at the tests surely the engine has been run on the dyno at the Honda facility in Japan between i and 10 power for several months.I know they are probabbly a year behind the other manufactors but it should be better than it was at the first race.

I am guessing the engine itself may be ok and they are struggling with the hybrid bits, battery, harvesting etc etc and software problems not talking to each other.

My biggest ptoblem is the Head of Honda engines and Eric Boullier dont seam to know what they are talking about and does not inspire confidence.

Don't forget that's a typically gallic assessment of the situation. That means they were running 100-or-so hp down to preserve life and they want to be up to -40hp-ish by Malaysia in a couple of weeks.

May need to adjust the voting chart to add an 11th position - assuming Mclaren keep on behind the tow-truck...

They may stand a chance of more points at a circuit which is less about outright power than Canada, but Honda really need to get their act together - least powerful engine on the grid ( allegedly ) and also the thirstiest is not a good combination, especially when combined with dodgy reliability frown I suspect if Honda weren't pumping £millions into McLaren Ron would already be looking for a new engine

Well 2% of you are wrong, Mclaren are now mathematically out of title contention for the WCC & WDC titles although 2nd in both is still mathematically possible, if somewhat unlikely.

The poll is still open, so I voted an optimistic 8th. They are 9th now, if they can get their st together by the end of the year, they might catch Sauber. Maybe.
