KMag was Ron's preferred choice. McLaren analysed that he was quicker than Button.

Board said otherwise.
Don't know that analysis works tbh? Button outqualified him more times, scored well over double.the points and bar a lucky finish in Australia spent the vast majority of the year going backwards from grid positions as Button went forwards.
My thoughts too ...god knows what data McLaren have.

Until recent days Ron's data was probably his "ideal scenario" of funding from Danish sources, which would have given him a stronger say in matters.

He needs that bit extra if he has a challenging team mate, maybe he does have and has learnt from Lewis but I have yet to see it. Next year he can prove me wrong or right - don't care just get the job done.
Yes. He needs to step up to the mark. I can only ever remember him really going for it on the circuit a handful of times, and two of those were when he won the WDC.

I'm surprised he carried on in F1 really, I don't think his heart's been in it for a long time, partic since he lost his dad.

On the other hand, Alonso drives like he stole it most of the time and will surely put JB in the shade.

It's a shame coz I like him, but he does seem to have morphed into another David Coulthard - in other words, an also-ran.

Adds some spice to 2015 - will be an interesting battle between these two, if the car is uncompetitive (which seems entirely possible) will either of them be there in 2016?

Yeah - that'll be why he seriously outpointed his team mate this year. I'm not JB's biggest fan but his heart is still very clearly in it.

It will be an epic toe to toe battle over 10th place...can't wait.
Sadly you wont be wrong there. Be interested to see how Vettel gets on in a Ferrari. If hes doing way better than Ferrari's Alonso- somethings amiss.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on against Kimi Raikonnen who I've never particularly rated. So if Vettel is the real deal he should trounce him.
It's far more about the type of car for Vettel - he needs it a certain way and if it's not that way he's much more average. I can see him and Kimi being pretty equal probably, with Vettel being a bit better.

Maybe so, but that's not saying much. He didn't outpoint the 7 drivers above him did he? The only supposedly top class driver below him was Raikkonen.

"Fernando is faster than you" will probably be next years most common radio message. smile

We will find out next year if Button is actually any good as a race driver.

I also learned to drive in that very same car! He's still going, albeit in a Suzuki Alto now.

Was the comparison for 3 years with the current WDC not enough to show how good he really is?

I think 15 wins and a championship has proved that he already is.

Well, may as well chuck in my tuppence...

Button will match Fred, unless Fred has a solid prima donna status (probably) and if there's lots of team orders that'll just reflect quite badly on Fred.

IMHO, Fred is good but has done a fine job of telling everyone how bad the Ferrari is, when it's actually been half decent...

I dont understand where the idea that JB has slowed down, or given up and is crusing round in an F1 car when he could be trying harder if his 'heart was in it', so to speak has come from??

Those gleefully talking Button down dont take into account that a drivers performance is always dictated by the car's. The only true barometer of a drivers performance comes from his team mate. In this sense Button scored highly this year, more so in fact that when he won his WDC.

Even when you're the fastest driver on the grid, WITH the fastest car, you're still not going to score if you can't bring the car home, it is in this area particularly that I fell Button excels (particularly when wet).
