Come on Button.... a little less of the nice guy - be selfish, head down and don't look up until the end of 2015 when the Legend of Alonso has been blown away.. you have nothing to lose and all to gain... I may even break out my hard earned and by some JB merchandise (regretting not buying the Brawn stuff).

DO IT FOR PAPA SMURF and at the end of the year tell Ron to stick it and join the Martini boys.....

Do you seriously think when JB is in the car he is too much of a nice guy to win , he probably holds doors open for people and is very courteous out of the car but in it he is a competitor of the highest level hehe

He needs that bit extra if he has a challenging team mate, maybe he does have and has learnt from Lewis but I have yet to see it. Next year he can prove me wrong or right - don't care just get the job done.

Impossible to tell as the car will be different , best to judge him against the mumbling Finn

Are we talking about Jenson "Balance" Button here?

I think he'll have the beating on Alonso when everything clicks on race day and his set up is perfect. Alonso on the other hand can drag the time out of even the most difficult of cars. His 2012 and 2014 seasons IMO cemented him as an all time great driver; much like Schumacher's 1996 and 1998 seasons did.

Sadly you wont be wrong there. Be interested to see how Vettel gets on in a Ferrari. If hes doing way better than Ferrari's Alonso- somethings amiss.
It will be interesting to see how he gets on against Kimi Raikonnen who I've never particularly rated. So if Vettel is the real deal he should trounce him.

Here we go with the bold predictions and hopes for 2015....

JB to outscore Fred.

Irrespective of any "I'm the greatest, I'm #1, I'm worth 7/10th" Fred BS, JB will have the support of the engineers and mechanics and when the going gets tough JB is likely to get the "preferential" treatment and extra us needed to get the win / podium / result.

Ron will be trotting-out Ronspeak at an all-time record rate to defend the signing of FA.

From the McLaren press release Fred was talking about his hero senna, JB said Prost was his; are they already drawing the battle lines? .... smile

Is FA going to crash into Button on the final corner of the Abu Dhabi GP thus gaining 10th spot in the championship?
You mean while Button wins the WDC? cool

It would be a social media meltdown! Fred would not be allowed to enter the UK again if that happens.

I think Button could do surprisingly well against Alonso... although I did say the same about Kimi last year eek

Button has the same significant advantage Alonso has had this season - Being the long term member of the team, knowing generally how the team & car operates and knowing what buttons to push to get what he needs from people. Plus I dare say he will be the more liked / favored of the two drivers within the team.

I'm pleased Jenson will be in F1 next year but I do hope he doesn't disappoint vs Alonso. I also feel very sorry for Magnussen; he has been treated even worse than Perez was last year and that is really saying something. Very shabby way to treat a young driver, basically ruining his career options before he really got started.

I think Button was Alonso's preferred partner.

Alonso has more to gain in legacy by beating another fellow world drivers champion, than a rookie who performance was marginalised by the change in rear balance of the Mclaren due to Buttons (No: 1 drivers) preference.

KMag was Ron's preferred choice. McLaren analysed that he was quicker than Button.

Board said otherwise.

I've spent all year trying to think who it is that Magnussen reminds me of.

I've just got it:

To be serious this time, I'm delighted that Jenson is continuing in F1, but at the same time I also feel very sorry for Magnussen. Seems like a very decent young driver who had a promising F1 career to look forward to. This is a very shabby way to treat him.

I don't get how KMag is being badly treated.

He's reserve driver and obviously waiting for JB to step down/get the sack.

Being badly treated would be getting the sack so late that you can't drive elsewhere as happened to Mika Salo in 98/99.

Don't know that analysis works tbh? Button outqualified him more times, scored well over double.the points and bar a lucky finish in Australia spent the vast majority of the year going backwards from grid positions as Button went forwards.
