Well deserved, amazing season, topped off with this award.

Fully expect another amazing season next year, with Lewis making it 3 championships.

Well done Lewis; a) for winning, and b) for paying for my afternoon down the pub. :-)

A great and very humble winner smile

Shame so many people don't realise how much team work and effort it takes to drive an F1 car on the limit. Its just turning up and driving the fastest car to them..

Have you seen the numbers... just crazy...

He had almost 100,000 more votes than that golfer bloke in 2nd.

Surprised Mercedes F1 didn't win the team award, no other team in sport has been as dominant this year.

It's like the bbc version of giving the fat kid at school a special prize at sports day-simply everyone has to be included.

Team of the year women's rugby? If they can find a pre-OP transsexual disabled person next year they'll have hit the jackpot.

Well done LH btw, thoroughly deserved smile

Good, I think he deserved it. He overcome a lot of problems at the start of the year and fought tooth and nail on the track to get past his team mate to win.

It's interesting that this is the only PH thread on SPOTY 2014 - in other words, it's as if we had no interest in discussing any aspect of this programme, were it not for Lewis's inclusion among the 10 contenders. Which is strange, given that it's always a fascinating summary of the year's sport, with the opportunity to reminisce about great glory moments in a whole variety of areas.

I'm chuffed to bits about Lewis's success.thumbup

He appears to have grown up a lot this year. Each of the nominees was a worthy winner. But I'm happy Lewis won.

Does this thread not count then?

Probably because MB is not British but German owned and to win the team prize you have to be British. I think the winning team deserved it.

Very pleased Lewis won.
Apparently 33% of the vote, very humble acceptance speech, and loved the idea he took his dog, Roscoe.
I think he has very much matured, and is in a very happy place in his life, he also looked as if he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

But wasn't Mercedes suggested as one of the contenders, before they announced the winning team?

I didn't watch it so I just assumed that they didn't win because of the British angle. One lives and one learns. Perhaps they were taken out of the running because Lewis was voted top.
However I still think the right team won.

Not to forget that the European Ryder cup team were also up for the award.

According to the Wail, there's a backlash about his tax status:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2873971/On...

Tbh, whilst I think there is mileage in the comments, I also do think that yet again Hamilton is criticised for doing something that can all but be regarded as the norm, whereas others before haven't received the same criticism.

During the programme, a Scottish tax exile of some 50 years+ was wheeled on to the stage - a Scottish racing driver who promotes Scotland at every turn yet doesn't the hell want to live there and certainly won't pay tax there.

Wasn't Stirling Moss just about the only British racing driver not to choose to be a tax exile? if so, why don't these comments come up frequently?
