There's an old saying in F1 that says Ferrari always win the closed season...

Interesting shot that. Obviously there's 2 routes the engineers have gone - really long nose, or really short nose. The cars that look fastest (Ferrari excepted) have all gone for the short nose concept - Merc, Williams and Red Bull.

The amount of laps Mercedes have done compared to everyone else is insane.

Hoping McLaren are just having an easy day "checking systems", +17 seconds?
cant see McLaren pushing to hard on day one with a brand new engine
Wouldn't really say it is a new engine anymore they have had one test already on it as well as the winter to sort it out, don't think they travel all that way to sit in the garage.

Completely different engine to the one they tested at Abu Dhabi last year.

Could be the camo paint but that Red Bull looks really narrow at the back end.

And different packaging, sensors, loom routing, etc.
Sounds like it's interference issues with the sensors, understandable given the above.

Is it me, or do Ferrari make a point of setting some good testing times for the sponsors each year? Pity they always fall off by Melbourne tho.
Not really. Last few years they have been slow in testing which has dragged into the season.

It would also normally be the teams struggling for sponsors playing the false pace game.

Didn't Kimi set the fastest time this time last year?

I like the whole Williams effort, but that front has a bit of the pope's nose about it, no?

Williams win the worst nose prize.

Vettel getting the fastest time was interesting, I don't know whether it was a low fuel soft rubber glory run for SV, but after not getting on with the Red Bull car last year after winning for 4 years it's a bit of an odd one to me that he's hit the ground running on pace in a new team and a new car.

All I remember the last 2 years or so is thinking what a rubbish season it was going to be because Ferrari were off the pace. (Not a universal view I know, but I'm a big fan)

Honda shocker 2nd attempt on track and still not getting anywhere, surely they could have got the thing going before they arrived at the circuit? Does not bode well for them, a bit like Renault last season not getting on top of the rules.

True. And testing isn't done in Parc Ferme conditions, and the engine doesn't have to last?

The engine is working fine, it's the electronics that are niggling it!
