Honda shocker 2nd attempt on track and still not getting anywhere, surely they could have got the thing going before they arrived at the circuit? Does not bode well for them, a bit like Renault last season not getting on top of the rules.
I'm sure they got it going but the testing restrictions mean that they couldn't really run it in anything resembling track conditions. At least they managed more laps today than Red Bull did on day one last year!rallycross said:

Too early to say. Obviously it's far from ideal, but Red Bull still came second last year, didn't they? In effect they are the de facto Renault works partner, so no different for Ron's mob.Whats interesting me so far engine wise....
Honda - apparently the engines aren't the actual engines that will be used, not sure of the relevance but the issues they are seeing may not exist on the homologation spec.
Mercedes - claim not to have spent any of their tokens, does this mean they are currently running the 2014 spec ICE? if they are then the speed of that mercedes is even more astounding and could get even faster
Ferrari - Seems strange to see Sauber so far up the timesheets with the Ferrari engine too, have they managed to locate a big jump in HP compared to Renault?

not sure that can be taken at face value?they may well be running the same ICE, but no way would they not have taken the opportunity to change out the electronics etc. it's not like they did not have significant failures last year that they will have wanted to address.
As interesting as it is to follow the new cars as soon as they are rolling, i'm not going to get drawn into the lap times and start coming to any conclusions too much at this stage. Who knows what settings are being run in comparison to others. The only time it matters is at the first race in qualifying and the race itself, only then can any measured assessment be made.
I got swept along last year thinking no one would hardly complete the first race last year, when really I should have known some of it was exaggerated doomsday predictions and also looked at it realistically in terms of what these teams are capable of.
So, as nice as it is to see Vettel doing quick laps at the moment, it can all change, there's already massive chunks of time being found so the actual real pace is a long way from being seen. The only conclusions which can be made are speculative. Even if Mclaren are struggling to get the Honda going, there's a long way to go before realsitic predictions of a poor season can be made.
It's just nice knowing a new season is closing in fast... no matter who is pace setting.

But they can make changes on reliability grounds without spending tokens. So maybe they have reworked all the bits they could on reliability grounds, but not yet changed anything that would use tokens.
They've apparently found an extra 50hp, I can't see that being from reliability only. However you may be right that they are running 2014 engine at this test as a baseline for measuring the effectiveness of the other car changes.

really?had not thought of that...
Still, we know that have done a lot of development work, so I think it's unimaginable that they won;t use it? why wouldn't they?
