Would have been great.. but if it's south of the Watford Gap then it's just too far for me.
I understand the demographic of PH is probably more SE based then not but just for once it would be nice to have something a little bit more accessible for the rest of us
We are trying to move further north with some of our Sunday Services to enable more people to attend but for this event it is in the saaaaaarf.I understand the demographic of PH is probably more SE based then not but just for once it would be nice to have something a little bit more accessible for the rest of us
@LordGrover We'll announce the venue next week but it is a popular venue for us, I shall say no more on the venue until then
I've heard the mantra repeated a few times over the years about "trying" to do more northern based stuff but other than the odd SS in the Midlands feck-all has ever materialised. I understand that many PH-type venues are down south but at times I have to question whether the PH Staff even consider looking at other options. Silverstone seems like quite a regular location for SS for example but would the world end if there were to be one at Oulton Park for example?
To me this event is a perfect example of PH not even making an effort - this event sounds like a brilliant get together and while you've alluded to it being a a very PH-venue it's not something that needs that to work IMO, I wouldn't imagine it would be impossible to have booked out a cinema screen somewhere in the North as well, the venue might not have had anything particularly PH-worthy about it in of itself but it would have been made to be so by the very fact you had a load of PHers sat watching motorsport wouldn't it?
I think one of the main problems is PH is based down here and as the PH staff run the SS's it's difficult/expensive to get the staff up north for a weekend.
I do count myself as lucky that I live in the SE and get to be withn easy driving distance of lot of good motoring events, not just the PH ones.

The Silverstone events seem to always be part of some other event (Ferrari racing days / Porsche) and not seemingly organized direct with Silverstone who would not stand to make any real gain from opening up alone. I'm sure other more northern venues would open but may want to charge for opening which would not be cheap or have may have nothing on to actually do when you arrive.
There are very few opportunities for the north comparatively but we always have the option to travel. I would expect that the guys who work for PH do not get paid any overtime for running a sunday service but will be expected to do this. I'm grateful that every now and then they do get up early in the morning for a 3 hour drive north to open up Sunday Service at 7am!
Thankyou PH
Love Andy (Northern Monkey)

A couple of points here:
First up we held a Sunday Service in Doncaster a few weeks back, so we don't completely neglect the North of the country. As you say, the majority of our events are where the majority of our community are based... but it is a little unfair to say nothing has ever materialised.
Secondly, I assure you that we made a considerable effort to find a venue that is both willing to open its doors (very) early on a Sunday morning, have access to SKY TV, have the necessary facilities and crucially not charge us for anything so that we can keep this event completely free for our community members. To us (and we're sure the people that can attend) that is pretty important in order for the event to work! Perhaps you've misunderstood the true meaning of "a very PH venue", but to us meeting this criteria is very important!
As it happens we contacted more than 30 different venues as part of our search... and we had 29 negative replies. Luckily the people who said yes also happen to have the best facilities! So, if you can find us a cinema screen anywhere in the country that would meet the criteria then we'll happily be there in a flash!
I'm sure that this will help you to understand that we do try our best but it is simply the case that we can't please everyone all the time.
I hope to meet you at a Sunday Service at some point in the future - we will continue to endeavour to hold them at increasingly varied and geographically diverse venues!
Cheers

Please can I ask what a F1 Wake Up is?
Absolutely - it is an event where we all meet really early on a Sunday morning and watch the first race of the F1 season together in a great environment. There may even be a couple of special features to make it a memorable event. Maybe.Hope to see you there!

Thanks for taking the time to reply... reading it back my post was a bit of rant/moan but that was mainly born out of my frustration because this event would have been right up my alley really I do appreciate all the effort the PH Staff put in over and above the 9 to 5 and that they are working within the geography of what venues there are, I absolutely understand what you mean by a "PH Venue" - I was more saying that (to me anyway) a less "PH Venue" that I can get to is far preferable to the PHest of PH venues that I can't!
Regarding the money aspect I'd actually (incorrectly, obviously) assumed there would be a nominal fee (£10-15?) for the event to cover the facilities etc and I can see how doing it for free would dramatically reduce your options for getting a venue. I can't speak for the rest of the PH community but I suppose I'd be more than happy to pay such a fee to attend an event like this - especially so if it was do-able to travel there and back within a day as I doubt any likely entrance fee would come close to out weighing what I'd save by not paying out for a hotel (along with the reduced fuel cost).
As I said thanks for taking the time to reply to my rant and maybe I'll see you at a PH event in the future!
