If an F1 driver farts and follows through we have multiple page blogs from the good doctor explaining in depth medical details about what might be happening in a situation he has no knowledge of. Whilst slagging off any speculation that isn't his speculation.
I agree in part - but he is well placed to advise what would be, for example, administered track side to a driver who was confused/struggling/etc - and the time for that drug to clear the system - so some of his comments are valid and based on experience.
I don't disagree that he has in depth knowledge of medical procedures.

I suspect some people at McLaren are breathing a sigh of relief that they have a decent and race-ready third driver waiting in the wings.

The longer this goes on the fishier it gets, I really hope there's nothing untoward with Alonso, and I'm sure he'll have had a thorough medical prior to signing the contract with McLaren, but this is really starting to look like an underlying medical issue which may have caused the accident and is now being looked into.

Alonso's way of getting paid fort the season (back pain and severe headaches) while avoiding the embarrasment of driving a dog and the team avoids an embarrassing walkout by Alonso?

Who can prove if someone feels back pain or headaches?

Pass the tin foil hat.

I initially thought that this incident was caused by a mechanical failure, and McLaren were playing it down to protect their new partner.

There is clearly now more to it than that.

It now looks like Fernando may have had some sort of medical problem, and his hospitalisation is more than just 'precautionary' frown.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Get well soon, Fernando.

Probably. Just a passing thought.

I really hate to say this and I hope to god it is not at all relevant but remember poor Richard Burns collapsing at the wheel of his road car and subsequently discovering he had a tumor.
In hospital a thorough and complete analysis of his condition was performed, involving CT scans and MRI scans, all of which were completely normal.

Circuit photographers said he appeared to be unconscious before the impact
That last point refutes the erroneous rumours that have spread recently to the effect that Fernando was rendered unconscious by an electrical fault. That is simply not true. Our data clearly shows that he was downshifting while applying full brake pressure right up to the moment of the first impact – something that clearly would not have been possible had he been unconscious at the time.

I read that as well.

I would suggest that whilst he may not have been unconscious, there is a very wide range of consciousness. So they may be truthful that he wasn't unconscious but there is no evidence that he was fully alert either.

As pointed out before, Massa was able to brake in his spring/head accident. Voluntarily or not, who knows.

So maybe he just put his head down to look for something in the cockpit, maybe something came loose and got got jammed between the pedals or some other controls. Who knows, we are all just keyboard warriors speculating on something we know very little about.

If it was an issue with the car he wouldn't still be in hospital.

May as well, now he's been signed off sick for the rest of the week.
